The negatives

Presumably the moral is that yes, you're correct, before spending £40k+ on a car you should check the competition carefully, if only to satisfy yourself that you are making the right decision, all things considered.

Token you are right, to a degree.

However, the M3 is NOT in the same class as a 320i Coupe is it!! That's the whole Point, its in the High Performance car bracket and priced as such.

The question is then, are we comparing apples with apples?? What "Class" is the Evoque in?? Small Family Hatch?? Premium Offroader??

If the later, then it is well priced, if Family car, Serioulsy Overpriced!!

I keep telling myself it is Premium SUV! Lets Hope So!!!

I have read this thread with a degree of interest and now is my time to jump off the fence....

A RR is a premium 4x4, its not a premium SUV, never has been and still isn't & you can't seriously be attempting to compare a LR product with a family hatchback, as to do so you're missing the point of this vehicle....yes it crosses over and would seem to meet most demands required from an everyday vehicle, but please do try to remember that any RR is a premium & luxurious 4x4 full stop and as such the RRE is remarkably well priced. Anyone who thinks otherwise is probably from what LR would label a 'conquest' sale. i.e. one thats new to it's brand as to compare these vehicles with Audi, BMW or other marques is simply ridiculous...they are not on the same 4x4 planet as any LR product!

I agree that it has the Luxury Brand associated to it, pity then that they come bottom of the customer satisfaction surveys 10 years on the trot!!

I know I seem to be the one questioning its pricing/Sector, and yes, I am a BMW Man, and proud of it I may add, however, I wouldn't have an X3 if someone stuffed the door pockets and glove box with £50 Notes!!

The RRE is an Extremely difficult car to compare with anythinbg, that I agree with, and as such people will Always question the pricing. That said, we will still be proceeding with ours!!

It is hard to say what class it is in which is why all the mags have compared it to just about every car in the world at some point or another!

I had up to £75k to spend and my requirements were as follows:

- Eye-catching looks
- Quality Ride Comfort
- Room for 4 people occassionally and a couple of sets of Golf Clubs
- Towing capability (just for a couple of race bikes)
- Over 35mpg
- Quality interior
- Plenty of Toys to keep me entertained
- Limited Body-roll and decent handling
- Off-road capability to get me down country lanes in winter
- 0-60 time sub 9 seconds and decent mid range for overtaking
- Able to get into any car park (sounds silly, but got caught out a few times in the FFRR and it was a proper pain!
- Decent brand to support professional image

Having looked at the market, there was not another car that ticked all these boxes for any amount of money...so for £50k, I'm prepared to say it offers excellent value for money!

If you want a practical sports car...the M3 is better. If you want a luxury car, a low range 7-Series is better, if you want the best luxury off-roader a FFRR is better, blah blah blah...I wanted a mix of everything...and in the Evoque, I have it.

I DID do quite a lot of price comparison before I committed to the Evoque .... and the first thing to say despite the popular myth perpetrated by the motoring press the RRE is not expensive compared to a BMW X1 (and latterly Audi Q3). OK I’m a bit of an options junkie and therefore I nearly always lose my shirt when I buy German cars because I load up the base cars up with stuff that doesn’t get taken into consideration come sale time. However if you add all the options that come as standard on a Prestige (which is what I’ve ordered) the X1 was £400 cheaper than the Evoque (March 2011 prices)..... I’m sorry I’m more than happy to pay £400 for the way the Evoque looks .... and don’t get me started about the X1 cheap interior. Its now the same story with the Audi Q3. Now of course if you don’t want / wouldn’t spec your German car up with all the stuff that comes as standard in the RRE then yes they work out better value .... and quite honestly I think you would be quite mad to put £10k worth of options onto an X1 or Q3 .... but rather bizarrely I don’t feel like that about the Evoque ..... maybe I’m deluding myself but to me it does feel like it’s in a different class to those cars. So yes do your research and if you are after a classy, go-anywhere, compact car loaded to the gunnels with goodies .... that puts a smile on your face .... then the Evoque is for you ... it’s no bargain but personally I don’t think its overpriced vs its perceived competition as people think (car prices have really gone up in the last couple of years).

I think these days, so many people want an Audi or BMW because they are considered 'luxury' brands. If the car is actually any good or not does not seem to matter. In my mind, RR's are benchmarked against Audi and BMW by many punters, especially those new to the brand. Which is entirely missing the point already raised in that RR is an offroad specialist. People are so blinkered by damn Audis and BMW's!

For me, I need an offroad capable vehicle. And want a luxury car. RR makes sense to me, but the sport is looking dated, and a ffrr is just too big..

Evoque is just right....

In Prestige guise, it is good value to me, that is why we changed from a Highly Specd PURE, just couldn't stand the thought of wasting £7k on options that you NEVER Get back!! I think the Prestige is better Value, purely from a Residual Point. But I don't want to start the whole Bloody Pure V Prestige Thing Again!!

This is true, but unhappy customers are always heard before happy customers. I am a loyal land rover customer and for me, there is nothing that gives me more pleasure than when someone asks what I drive and I reply "land rover" for me the extra money is for the feel good factor. That is until you are at the side off the road waiting for land rover assist.
