RE: LED Dome and Rear Bulbs

Thanks for all the great info, guys! I changed over all of the interior lights to LED (Powerful UK kit) a few weeks ago as well as the reverse lights and all was looking great until today whenI tried to change over one of the vanity mirror T5 bulbs to LED. The new LED bulb wouldn't work when fitted in the holder, so I pulled it out and tried it the other way round and now ALL of my vanity mirror lights, my 2 map lights (either side of the centre courtesy light) and my glove box light won't work. The centre dome courtesy light will only come on when the door is opened, but won't come on when I touch it. The rear seat courtesy lights, the boot and the footwell lights are all fine. Has anyone any idea what might have happened? I wondered if some of the interior lights may be on a different circuit to others. I don't think it is a fuse as there only seems to be one fuse covering all interior lighting. Any ideas folks? Thanks in advance. Smile

LED bulbs only work one way round as you have found out, + & - aren't marked. Getting them wrong shouldn't harm the circuit. When fitting mine, I had to switch around half the ones I fitted before they worked without any further problems.
Your scenario is very strange, I would try disconnecting the battery to reboot the system (this cures most faults)

Check fuse #31 in the passenger compartment behind the glove box. Might be a waste of time but 31 is for auxiliary lamp switch and is only 5 amps so it's a possibility. Also controls the rain sensor in the windshield. I never changed the vanity mirror lamps as I didn't want the ghostly gow from LED's to spoil the lady's looks.....

Thanks guys, I will disconnect the battery and see if that clears the fault. I noticed already that fuse #31 is also for the passenger airbag lamp, which is still working perfectly, so looks like it isn't that. All ideas are very much appreciated. so thanks so much for your replies. Will let you know how I get on. Smile

RE: LED Dome and Rear Bulbs

So, I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes this afternoon and it hasn't cleared the fault. I got hold of the interior lighting wiring diagram on Topix, so I have sent these to my (electrical specialist ) Dad so he can have a look for me, to see if he can help me out. To be honest I am not too bothered about the vanity mirrors and the map lights not working as I only really use my car in the day time and haven't yet had to use them, but of course I would like everything in my car to work perfectly, so I will persevere and see if it can be fixed without having to take it back to LR.

Sorry it's still not working, did you try refitting the factory bulbs?

You are the first one to have replaced the mirror bulbs for LED, that I can remember. Not that these ones work in any different way.But you never know, JLR works in mysterious ways Smile

Hi Doug. I've changed out the bulbs on both my FL2's and also on my Audi S3 for LED's and never had a single problem. It was the first vanity mirror bulb I had tried to swap over, I popped the lens cover off, pulled out the OEM T5 out very carefully and when I quickly realised that the T5 LED's I had bought were a few mm's too long to fit, I popped the original bulb back in. It was then I discovered that none of them were working. It's a weird one for sure. All courtesy lights still work (even the middle dome light, only it won't work off the touch sensor anymore) but those that work from either touch sensors or from opening of a panel (glove box and vanity lights) are no longer illuminating. My Dad's on the case just now, looking at the wiring diagrams. Fingers crossed he can come up with something or it will just have to wait until it's in for a service in September as it's no biggy in the scheme of things. All of the LED bulbs are Osrams like the OEM's, but I may have to swap the originals back in before its trip to the dealers if I can't fix it myself. Thumbs Up

RE: LED Dome and Rear Bulbs

Well, word back from my Dad is that he is convinced that my problem is as simple as fuse #57 being blown. I thought this would mean that ALL of the interior lights would not be working, but he has pointed out to me that all of the courtesy lights are powered by a different power BUS (covered by 40 amp fuse #E27 and that's why they are still illuminating as they should be. Looking at the parts of the wiring diagram he has pointed out to me, it looks like he could well be correct. I will be changing the fuse over the weekend and will report back. Smile xx

RE: LED Dome and Rear Bulbs

Just a quck positive update to say that my problem has been fixed! It was fuse #57 in the passenger compartment that had failed, just as my Dad had said. I thought that particular fuse covered ALL of the interior lights (as the owner's manual suggests), but it appears that the courtesy lights are covered by another fuse in the engine compartment. It's only the vanity mirror lights, glove box light and left and right side overhead domelights (along with the proximity/touch sensor) that are covered by fuse #57. The proximity sensors are working perfectly again and all is well with my car once more, ..PHEW! Thanks for your help and support, folks. Paula Smile xx
