Anybody upgraded the ambient lighting leds? and the puddle lamps?

I just have a quick question: do I really need to use those error free LED? Anyone has any problem (computer error) with the normal LED?

Next job, front dome lights, tried with the Stanley blade to remove the cover, mine was very tight and like some of the other members I was frightened of damaging the soft touch sensor, so I decided I would try and remove the whole unit,

I have taken three pictures to hopefully assist you, once the trim unit it is released you can remove the bulb holder from the inside and then switch the bulbs over in the bulb holders.

Now the lights are a nice glow and I haven't done any damage to the trim, cut my finger though on some sharp plastic, but lights ok.

The last photo you will see the three bulb holders clearly, these simply undo with a small anti clockwise turn, the lamp trim unit has two locating pegs that sit into two slots at the front of the unit and there are two spring trim clips that hold the unit in the headlining at the rear of the unit.

To finish make sure the bulbs are working properly then refit and click the trim unit back home into place.

Thanks for the thread as I would have been puzzled as the lights go out of sync, but with the hints this is easily sorted.

Has anyone changed the down lights that light up the gear stick area that are located in the overhead console. Are they already LED bulbs. Would like to change them to red.

I found my tail lights to be sticking to the rear quarter panel due to the foam thats on the light body. It runs the length of the tail light along the top edge. Its quite sticky. I used a thin credit card to pry it off the paint

I recieved these same bulbs today and I dont think I can recommend them. The original Philips bulbs are actually brighter than these. I am greatly dissapointed with them. Also the body of the globe itself requires some slight modification with a blade to allow it to be inserted into the housing chosen by Land Rover. The plug is also slightly different but doesnt appear to effect the plug insertion. It cost me about AUD$100 by the time I landed front and rear sets and they dont even burn your eyes out like white LEDs do when out of the housing. Id have thought for 18 LEDs it would be pretty good but not so.

   
   
   

To add to your discussion of LED Interior Lights..not trying to grab your thread, just add what I found out after changing all my bulbs this week.

Numerous sites have information and some have videos on installation of LED interior lights for the Evoque. Over the past week I have changed all my interior lights to LED's and they sure look great, much better than the original incandescent bulbs that come stock with the vehicle.

All of the interior lamps, with the exception of the cargo area lamp are T10 or W5W Wedge base LED lamps. The courtesy and reading lamps front and rear are 1 watt and the footwell lamps are 1.5 watt angel eye type to disperse the light in a wider arc. The 1 watt worked just fine here too, I just changed them out for a bit more light. This includes the front courtesy lamp and reading lamps in the overhead console, the rear courtesy lights and the footwell lights. The cargo area lamp is a C5W Festoon bulb and is 36mm in length. I used one that provides 1.5 watts with 3 5050 SMD's and it gives excellent lighting, you could possibly use a slightly higher wattage but this works fine and illuminates the entire cargo space well. I was concerned that higher wattage lamps may create too much heat in the enclosed space.

Several words of caution:
#1. The bulbs, at least on the interior, do not require they be equipped with the CANBUS circuitry, so the lower price bulbs work just fine. I purchased all my bulbs from eBay and the average price was about $1.25 US per bulb rather than the higher prices ($32 a pair plus shipping) you see in the videos for the OSRAM CANBUS bulbs of the same wattage. No question the OSRAM bulbs may be higher quality but I can replace a lot of bulbs for those prices. Especially when the bulbs are rated at about 50,000 hours! Plus I bought different colors so I can interchange colors to mix with the Ambient Lighting as I wish.
#2. When removing the original bulbs, they will be HOT if they are on. Expect to be burned if you don't have something to remove them with, like a cloth. (A tip...use a short piece of the correct size rubber tubing that fits over the bulb and you can pull it right out. Or, shut the lights off with the courtesy light switch)
#3. The LED's do get hot! If you grab a 1 watt LED with the metal heat dissipator ring around it after it has been on for a minute or two you will be burned. Although LED's do not get as hot as regular bulbs, they do get hot. The higher the wattage, the hotter the bulb will get. So remember the bulbs need cooling space. Think about that when placing them in enclosed spaces and use common sense in choosing wattage. Placing a 5 watt LED in a small space behind a plastic lens will likely end up melting something, including your wallet. Brilliance will be yours for a short time...only!

You do not need a special tool to open the map and reading light lens for your Evoque. A flat bladed one inch wide putty knife will do, along with something to place under the corner of the lens after you have pried it up. I used another plastic putty knife for this. Pry up one side and then the other and then carefully around the middle. The 2013 Evoque has only one tab on the windshield size of the lens, rather than the two shown in the on-line video, so be careful where you pry. Once you have the cover open, (pull it forward and down, but do not attempt to remove it...it is NOT removable) simply remove the three bulbs, carefully install your new LED's and close it up and you should be good to go.

One caution here to save you lots of time and worry...if you recall, pressing on the center courtesy lens will shut off all the interior lighting to the car. So, when you're working on the lights, you will of course be turning the lights on and off repeatedly and you may find you have turned them off and think they have now become totally inoperative or you have blown a fuse. Two thoughts. One is that after so long, the system will time out and the lights will shut off automatically, until you close and re-open the door again. But, the culprit will likely be that you have shut off the lights by pressing the courtesy lamp lens in the overhead panel between the reading lights. (Took me half an hour and two bulb changes to find this out yesterday!) Just press the lens and viola, you're in business.

The rear reading/courtesy light lenses are easy to remove. I used the same putty knife to pop the lenses out, using the long side of the lenses rather than the ends as the place to slip the putty knife under. The reason for this, as I found, is the tab on the lens may be at either end, It should be at the end toward the front of the vehicle, but on mine, one was toward the back and one toward the front, so prying in the wrong spot achieved nothing but frustration, Prying from the middle popped the lens easily. Pulling the bulb while holding the shield will hold it in place and allow the replacement with the LED of choice.

It's really nice to have the brilliance of the LED bulbs for reading and cabin illumination, and the ability to change the rear and footwell LED's out quickly for other colors if you want some mood illumination for a special occasion or just because you can. Low cost and really cool. What more can you ask for? It's your Evoque, so why not make it special!

Bulbs are available on eBay from numerous sellers. One more thought is to be sure the contacts are properly spaced for your lamp sockets.
