What is the Evoque competing against?

There are now various threads comparing the Evoque with other cars from a value perspective and trying to establish what class it's in, but ignoring the value and class aspects, what cars is the Evoque actually competing against?

So...3 questions?

1. What car are you moving from and what are your previous three cars?
2. What other cars made it onto the shortlist when buying the Evoque?
3. Why did you choose the Evoque?

My answers are:

1. 2008 Audi A5 Sport 2.7TD...FFRR, 911, and CLK
2. M3, E-Class Convertible, 7-Series, and Porsche Cayenne
3. Best all-rounder...goes off road, offers high level of luxury, decent performance in terms of speed and economy, British brand, and most importantly, only short wheelbase car I've ever driven with big car ride quality

RE: What is the Evoque competing against?

1. Freelander (interim car whilst waiting!), BMW 325M Sport coupe, BMW 320 M Sport saloon

2. Q5 and A5 Coupe Quattro

3. Fantastic looks, 4 x 4 capability, small(ish) size, managable running cost, nothing else looks as special. A5 is beautiful but very common

Collected - Pure Coupe SD4 Tech Auto, fuji with Almond/Expresso interior. Style 5 19" alloys, panoramic roof, xenons, privacy glass, electric adjustment exterior mirrors, rear camera, park assist, fog lamps, spare wheel

RE: What is the Evoque competing against?

1. CLK (Before that was my very first car, a Clio, so not particularly relevant!)

2. A5 quattro, Infiniti EX (or E Class coupe / Infiniti G - depending on how I was feeling about RWD and the snow at the time)

3. Feelgood factor, looks great, good allrounder

Dynamic Si4 5dr Orkney Grey, Black Pano, Vortex + Ebony, Keyless Entry, Spare Wheel

1- vw r36 wagon, Subaru liberty gt sti wagon, renaultsport Clio 172

2 - nothing else....

3 - wanted something that would be a comfortable family truckster, but still entertaining enough to drive....sick of having to hire a car to go to the snow

White 5 dr SD4 Dynamic.

RE: What is the Evoque competing against?

1. Mk V Golf GTI, 1987 911 Carrera 3.2, Westfield 2.0 (last 2 while having a Megane as main run around). I also use a 5 series for work so this is for SWMBO (or so she thinks)

2. Really wanted a Q3 but too bland and when reasonably specced got too close to RRE

3. Needs to be snowproof, stylish, reasonably exclusive but not too flash, kerbproof, practical, fun.

MY16 HSE Dynamic Scotia Grey with Lunar/Ice Interior. 508's, Pano Roof, Privacy, Auto Tailgate, Heated s/wheel, spare
