SD4 ED4

Ok really stupid question, i am picking my SD4 up in two weeks time and just realized that I do not know what the S stands for and i assume the E is for economy.
Go on then shoot me down.Very Happy

RE: SD4 ED4

No shooting down required!

The S signifies the 190BHP engine, if it had a T then it's the 150bhp variant and e is the 2WD drive variant with the 150 BHP Engine

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: SD4 ED4

I think the S stands for sequential, I think that means the turbo has two blades, effectively turning it into a twin turbo in a single body ( the second blade comes into play when more power required, hence more bhp than the tdi ), I heard this somewhere ( can't remember where ) so if I'm wrong, sorry, only saying what I heard.

evoque now gone, but not forgotten, on to bigger and better things

RE: SD4 ED4

Freelander2, RRS, Disco4 and FFRR all have SD, TD and e (well Evoque and Freelander2 have e) designations - in all the other models the S = higher output
T= lower output and e= 2WD except in the new RRS where e I believe will be the Hybrid version. In FFRR the T version is the 3.0 TDv6, the S = 4.4 litre TDv8
All LR diesels now have variable geometry turbos but in D4, RRS and both versions of FFRR there are two turbos, a smaller one and a larger one that play sequentially. Defender has a modified Ford Transit engine only available in one power output so no need for S and T designations.
The S does not stand for Sport version

In Freelander2 and Evoque as we all know, the only physical difference between the two diesel engines is the map that gives the higher or lower output
