RE: Insurance quote

Just did an online quote and came to £8,633!

Err...think I need to call someone to get a quote instead of using Go Compare!

However 37, three points on license (speeding), no claims, with spouse as other driver.

Funny as I heard a news section on radio 4 yesterday discussing how there has been a 20% drop in new licenses being issued to drivers under the age of 24. The reason was due to high insurance premiums of £4k approx, plus expensive driving lessons, increase in fuel etc. There is also a new EU law coming into place to prevent insurance companies issuing car insurance policies based on gender and age.

I laughed and thought how crazy as our current insurance is about £450 per year, but perhaps all these new drivers have been using 'Go Compare' and subsquently put off.

Arrived 22nd December - SD4 Dynamic Auto, Fuji White, Panoramic/Contrast Roof, Dynamic Plus & Lux Pack

RE: Insurance quote

My excess with Admiral will be £250.
One of the quotes I had was for over £9,000. They must have thought I'm 4 1/2 not 54 1/2 or they just don't want the business.Laughing
Tim, I guess I wouldn't get such a good deal from LR insurance as you. New business would be more than the £368 I've got from Admiral.

RE: Insurance quote

If you have another car - try Admiral multi car. Saved a packet on our two cars this year, one of which we need to change over to the Evoque.

however.....

Cost of changing over now from a 1.3 Yaris (02 plate) to Evoque is an additional £312. Expensive when you work it out over a year - more like £600, plus what we paid on the Yaris ~£300.

Only paying approx £550 on my TTRS which is worth more than the RRE, far higher performance. Something dont stack up.

Probably stinging us for a mid year switch.

Compare the Meerkat quotes were ~£650 mark. Mrs's as main driver.

Current Cars:

- TTRS Roadster | Phantom Black | Aluminium Pack | Bose | Ipod Dock | 19" Titanium Grey Alloys | Through Load Facility
- Range Rover Evoque Dynamic Coupe | Firenze Red | Panoramic Roof | Towbar | Satin Brushed Centre Console

RE: Insurance quote

£1470 with £800 excess. Got 3 points and am 26 years old. I don't think that's too bad but do want the excess to go down a touch and don't mind paying a bit more on the insurance itself.

You should be able to halve that surely! Both excess and quote....

RE: Insurance quote

One thing that counts against all Land Rovers insurance-wise is their off-road capability - it makes insurers run a mile as they immediately assume everybody is going to take their car offroad, do damage that will cost £1000's to repair. Only a tiny number of D4/RRS and FFRR every go beyond the roadside verge even though they are capable of a lot more. The big companies that are all offshoots of the Treasury (ie Royal Bank of Scotland - which is Admiral/Directline/Churchill and a host of other names that are really all one company ) hate anything that might be a little different and more capable than your average family car and will charge heaps of extra premium. I was once refused cover by Directline for a Discovery 1 even though I had insured it with them for 3 years and never taken it offroad!

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.
