The voice of common sense has spoken! Thanks I totally agree - Land Rover engineers it's engines (and they are significantly modified over the standard versions from Ford and PSA) to suit off road use rather than on road use.
To get a 3.0ltr engine under the bonnet of an Evoque would require huge modifications and probably mean ruining the car's lines. I believe the Hotfire engines that are coming will offer significant increases in refinement and torque, meaning a V6 would be unnecessary - in addition V6 engines are considerably heavier which would increase CO2 output, emissions and therefore tax.

i agree the new engines will be a big improvement for most people,but there are some of us that would like a proper performance evoque as an option ,a 4 pot no matter how good can never compete with with a 6 cylinder for smoothness,as others have mentioned the evoque can be expensive for a car with only 4 cylinders.the dynamic model has no different engine options than the prestige/pure .other manufacturers offer bigger engines on there sports models i am sure people at the top end of the evoque price bracket are tempted away because of this.

+1 This is Land Rovers opportunity to break into a new market while still keeping true to its roots.
To do this a V6 is needed.

Maybe that's why members/owners like Racing Snake and XFullFatTim get invited to these viewing clinic days.

LR have probably created a mini monster in that this car has attracted a whole new customer base who are more road driving orientated and may never go off road, so would like more power.

But the Evoque is a LR and therefore has to have the Off-road capability, I think they have done pretty well considering.

Yes I'd like more power, I hope Hotfire provides this.

In the US this would be a "bragging rights" only issue.

Evoque weight 3,516–3,748 lb; petrol engine = about 240 hp
My previous C6 Corvette weight about 3200 lb; V-8 = about 400 hp.

In both cases seeing anything above 90 mph in my environment was/is rare and most of the time I am doing 50 mph or under in traffic. Of course, the reviewers will love it...

Firstly this reply is not mean't or intended to be controversial so if I upset anyone I apologise. My Evoque is my first vehicle of this type and caliber as I have previously had semi quick petrol vehicles such as S2000, Type R Civic and a seriously quick RB320. With this in mind I was a little worried that I would find my SD4 too sluggish, that was until my test drive when I found it suited my current needs perfectly, my question to all who are not happy with the performance of this engine is did you not bother with a test drive before shelling out over 40K?

Are these new Hotfire engines just diesel or petrol also? Anyone know if they are they destined for MY14 (which is when I am looking to go ahead with an order)?

I understand that they are developing diesel and Petrol. I think I read somewhere that they will be in cars from June 2014 ish

Yeah I just did a bit more reading and it looks like the factory thats going to build them isn't done yet (http://profeng.com/cover-story/driven-to...ss/page:3) so no chance of them making it until MY15!

The idea behind the new engine factory is that it would mean JLR (the engines will also go into Jaguar cars) is not reliant on an outside engine maker like it is now. Supposedly it will also reduce overheads for the company. IIRC the new factory is down Coventry way and is well on it's way to completion

New factory is being built near Wolverhampton. Already being increased in size from original plans to meet increased demand. Due to start production early/mid 2014.
