Anyone tried using the jack?

Has anybody any idea how the jack is supposed to work? My problem is that it appears to have no cranking mechanism, and the handbook is not helping as I simply don't follow this instruction:

Page 238, 'Wheel changing', instruction 2

"Attach the cranking lever to the jack using the adaptor. Fit the wheel nut brace to the end of the cranking lever".

What they appear to mean by the 'cranking lever' is already attached on mine anyway (although it has a hooked shape at the end attached to the jack, unlike the illustration), but how on earth do you attach the wheel brace to it?? As illustrated, (complete with arrows indicating rotation), there is no way of rotating it! You can just about contrive to rotate it (without the wheel brace being attached, given that I can't do this) by manipulating it about to achieve each turn, but it is extremely tedious and ineffective.

Mine just turned up from Duckworth Parts, still in the box, will try and have a look tonight.

I had to use it on the fl2 (same jack) the handle should fit into the hole at one of the ends and you hold it straight and twist it (it I remember right) its a fiddle but once you get it going it does the job.

Just checked handbook the handle that is already attached is the one you use to turn it. It takes a while but by the sounds of it you are doing it correctly. I didn't go for the spare so can't go out and have a look.

Hold the hook part out straight take the wheel brace and hold vertically and rest it in the hooked part and turn with hands at either side, I found it easier to use my hands until the jack took hold and then used the brace to turn.

Hope I've helped a bit.

It's a fitted handle on the one i've received, you use the handle to do half a turn over the top and then turn it round the front and do another half turn over the top etc, etc. no need to use the wheel brace other than doing the wheel nuts.

I think you're right, and that's as good as it gets, but why didn't they just fit a handle with a crank in it??

Be very very careful using Land Rover screw/scissor type jacks, they are lethal and should never be supplied. They must be the cheapest and nastiest jacks LR could buy, even China makes better(not much) quality.
Several guys over on the D3, RRS and FFRR forums suffered their cars falling off them and one Was quite badly hurt. Please follow the instructions on them to the letter to avoid accidents.

I agree that it's a poor quality jack, though.

Why would you need to use a jack on a new car? Are you working under the car already? Is it just me or aren't there garages you can take the car too? Don't think mine even came with a Jack
