Flat Battery - Again

I had a look at the manual trying to find if there was a fault code matrix (for when a message appears on the centre console) and if there was a way to access historical messages but no luck - in my last car you could check the most recent fault/warning message.

Anyone know if there is such a thing as a fault code matrix for our vehicle? Would sort of make sense as you could decipher the message when it appears.

I had another one appear the other day stating the car was due a service in so many days which I was expecting but I guess that must be pre-programmed based on length of ownership and not mileage.

Car is running again tech guy reset the battery monitoring system which is the cause of the problem,update is not out yet, but is imminent. Car was only charging at 12.5. Volts,since reset it is now charging at 14.5 volts. Happy days, hopefully.

Carrying on the theme, I run my vehicle on short journeys and came out this morning to find that it wouldn't start. LR Assistance arrived and confirmed a flat battery. Given that I only run short journeys and this is likely to reoccur can anyone recommed a charger that I can hook the car to to keep the battery charged? I know this shouldn't occur but have only covered 2100 milkes since I picked the car up in March 2012

How long had it been since you drove it last?

Les is the car kept indoors or outside - if outside I can recommend £9.99 solar chargers from Maplin. I have used one of these in my cars for the last 5 years

They won't work if the car is kept inside.

I've just hooked my Defender up to charger that is connected to the mains and automatically "trickle" charges the battery when it senses the condition isn't great. Got it from Halfords http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/store...yId_255205

Its predominantly kept outside. I did read your post but TBH thought I may not be running the car long enough. I drive 2.5 miles x4 and not a huge amount beyond that. Picked car up and mechanic mentioned buying a smart charger. Based on your experience of the solar charger do you think this would be better than just charging it once a month with a smart charger?

The problems with smart chargers is you have to plug them into the mains and take a cable outside. Solar panels you plug into the socket in the boot, put the panel where it will get the most daylight and forget it, checking that the LED is still flashing now and again. Just watch the flex for it, mine came adrift from the panel and the battery went flat!

Noticed that all, if not most of you with the flat battery problem have an SD4. Do you think it could just have been a fault in the batteries or the car of that particular model? Just seeing a trend.
