Is my tyre wear normal? - hondafreak - 15-11-2013 07:50am Hi. I own a SD4 automatic since August 2012. Yesterday i have mounted the winter tyres and checked the Continental 20" summer tyres. I was shocked that after only 13000 kilometers, that the front have only 3mm, and back 5mm left. My wife is driving this car most of the time and she is definitively no "racer". Is this tyre wear normal? i hope not! RE: Is my tyre wear normal? - BFGEvoqueMan - 15-11-2013 08:13am That's he problem with Craptinentals. Had them on my SLK and rears lasted 15000km and front 20000km. Replaced with Michelin's and the car now has 47000km, all tyres now have 5mm....... My Craptinentals have done 1000km and are down to 4mm......Last Evoque (with Michelins) had 22000km on the clock when I sold it and there was still 6mm on each tyre. RE: Is my tyre wear normal? - speary - 15-11-2013 09:18am 23000 miles and continentals about half worn BFG. 2 mm wear in 22000 is quite miraculous and pretty unrealistic. I would check your tyre gauge RE: Is my tyre wear normal? - BFGEvoqueMan - 15-11-2013 09:33am (15-11-2013 09:18am)speary Wrote: 23000 miles and continentals about half worn Speary; we may fall out! I think it is about driving style. My last Focus had Michelin's and were only down to 4mm after 37000 miles, so 2mm wear in 13000 miles on my RRE is not much (to me). Maybe I am gentle on my car, after all my front brakes pads were only half worn after 55000 miles in my focus (much to the dealers amazement). RE: Is my tyre wear normal? - HICKY555 - 15-11-2013 09:49am Short journeys around town makes a big difference. Try Achilies Desert Hawk. Half the price RE: Is my tyre wear normal? - speary - 15-11-2013 09:50am (15-11-2013 09:33am)BFGEvoqueMan Wrote: Speary; we may fall out! I think it is about driving style. Hadn't realised your 22000 was km's. 13000 miles is still more realistic and is similar to my wear rate. I must admit that the mileage I am getting is better than I expected, not that I am complaining at nearly £200 per tyre Once again apologies for any offence caused. I should re read my posts before posting RE: Is my tyre wear normal? - PhilSkill - 15-11-2013 10:09am Tyre wear has been by far the best in any car owned, but as I alternate Winter/Summer wheels I cant easily judge the wear rate, I just know they all still look pretty much new! ut then I find I don't drive the RRE any where as hard as a normal car, it's more of a luxury cruise. RE: Is my tyre wear normal? - XFullFatTim - 15-11-2013 10:22am I was very happy with the tyre wear on the 20" Craptinentals on my Evoque - previous experience with them on a 2.7TDv6 RRS was that I had to replace the fronts after less than 15000 miles as the shoulders had worn very badly. I handed the Evoque back with 23300 miles on it, all bar 3000 miles were run on the Craptinentals (the 3000 was run on Pirelli Ice and Snow winter tyres over the November 2011/ March 2012 period) and the tyres looked hardly used, certainly 4mm left all round. My faith has been somewhat restored in Continental Tyres. I was particularly bitter about high wear on them as they seem to be about the most expense brand of tyre you can buy yet you got only modest or poor wear rate that nearly all the majors making cheaper tyres could beat hands down. Hondafreak it might be worth getting you dealership to get the car into a tyre specialist to check the balance and alignment as something isn't right if you are getting so low a mileage on tyres. RE: Is my tyre wear normal? - BFGEvoqueMan - 15-11-2013 10:39am I think it depends on which brand of craptinentals you have. I have just got rid of my company car (44k km in 7 months!) which was on a basic eco type craptinentals and they had only worn to 5mm! I suspect that when it comes to their more performance tyres this is at the sacrifice of longevity, whereas Michelins seem to a be much better all round package? RE: Is my tyre wear normal? - MartinP - 15-11-2013 01:16pm I'm very similar to speary with continentals, 27000 miles and half worn. I'm very pleased with this as I expected to be changing more frequently. |
