Windscreen wiper catching on bonnet

When did BMW introduce this? I have just finished 10 years of owning various BMWs and none of them have required this.

Also, why is the option called winter wiper park when it is for other things. Surely "Wiper Park" would be a better name.

Not 100% sure, but I think the "winter" name has something to do with the heated front windscreen and freeing the wipers when there's frost.

It's service mode really, winter park is because you use it to avoid the snow packing them into the gap behind the bonnet and leaving the blades on the heated part.

During the winter I have got into the habit of pulling the wipers away from screen whether I have a heated screen or not, certainly seems to keep them in good condition. Although you do get people who visit the house saying "do you know that you have left your wipers up"

Trying not to upset anybody here but when you look at the wiper when you are lifting it, it is pretty obvious that it will be obstructed by the bonnet edge. One just needs to take a bit more care and not just yank up the wiper. Also the wiper arm will lift enough to get a cleaning mit etc under it for washing without putting it in winter park mode

When I picked up my car my dealer did mention that some guy wanted a bonnet re spray under warranty due to lifting the wiper, and he (dealer) refused to allow it.... That was a great way to teach me how not to damage the bonnet and make me remember the winter park mode.

My 2009 BMW 7 doesnt allow lifting on both wiper arms
