UK price for 2nd service

Guys,

Need some help here! My garage guy salmon has not called me about booking in for a 2nd service, might be because I ripped them off last year getting them to slash their price down. From memory think my first service was £250-270 in 2013.

Think Iam on around 11,000 on the clock.

Based in hampshire...what should be paying for 2nd service?

Funny enough my local dealer hunters (guy salmon are only 30 min drive away) have given me a quote of around £500 but it ws not their branch calling it was a call centre calling for them!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Mandy

Yeah I haggled between hunters and the dealer I brought from guy salmon last year. Just so surprised they have not called me and I was due on the 30th nov but last year I booked it in over the xmas period when I was working.

thansk for the figure, now that I have a figure I can haggle!

RE: UK price for 2nd service

i posted this on the 'Other' Evoque forum a while ago -

This is to show how much is being charged for labour when servicing is carried out. I have used the official Land Rover service schedule as a guide for what is done and priced all parts on the Rimmer Bros website.

Note the prices are Retail and not trade -

1st, 3rd & 5th year service (Diesel eD4 & SD4)
Pollen Filter - Genuine Land Rover LR039612 £11.72
Air Filter - Genuine Land Rover LR029078 £18.29
Oil Filter 2.2 TD - Genuine Land Rover LR001247 £10.18
Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 - 6 Litres £49.43

Total parts cost £89.62

Check/Top-up brake fluid levels
Check/Top-up clutch fluids levels
Check/Top-up windscreen and rear washer reservoir

Additional for the 2nd & 4th year Service

Fuel Filter - 2.2 TD - Genuine Land Rover LR001313 £38.89

Check/Top-up battery electrolyte level

As can be seen from the above the total cost of parts is less than £90 for the 1st, 3rd and 5th year service as I think we can discount the cost for topping up fluids and the cost for the 2nd and 4th year service is increased by the cost of the fuel filter at £38.89.

So all in all the dealer is charging around £300 for labour even on the cheapest quotation.

In addition to these charges there may be extra charges for replacing the brake fluid (Every 3 years if I remember correctly @ around £85) and for brake components (Pads and disks) dependant upon wear.

Thank you for your detailed response. I feel ripped off esp as I've only clocked up 11,000 miles

RE: UK price for 2nd service

That is why the EU says that you can take your car to ANY garage to get it serviced and the warranty will be preserved so long as genuine LR parts and liquids are used.

Dealers have to finance the cost of their operating theatre style workshops and showrooms and have to recover the cost somehow so it gets included into the charge called "labour" and then there is the VAT element on the labour too. You can bet your bottom dollar that the people who actually do the work are not being paid £100 an hour for carrying out your service. The non-Franchised LR Specialists who do work on my 1996 Defender charge £35+VAT per hour for labour and apart from the fact that they cannot access the LR servicing database to record the service as being done with LR and often don't stamp the service record book the service is exactly the same as you get at a main dealer (you have to walk through a dirty workshop and down a dirty side road and don't get you car washed or valeted at a non-franchise outlet too!) Don't forget in the labour amount at a franchised outlet you will be charged for the washing and cleaning of your car even though it isn't itemised anywhere and any non-scheduled things you ask to be looked at will also be charged for.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: UK price for 2nd service

not done too badly, called up guy salmon after Some light neg I got £349 inc vat. I have asked him to email me for now while I decide on dates since it comes with loan car free...hmm what loan car should I go for?! I am going in on the Days inbetween xmas and new year when it's usually quiet so that might be why it's a cheap quote.
