Towbar fitting....

After opinions from others on here re getting a towbar fitted. Asked the LR salesman for a price for single electrics flange type nearly sh*t a brick when quoted £580....must be goldplated with inset diamonds for that price! Will not be buying that! He also put in the email reply to me the following :

"I will say that if you do fit an after market tow bar and it causes problems with any of the vehicles systems it will not be covered by warranty if its not a genuine Land Rover part just so you are aware of this."

Dare say trying to put the frighteners so you buy from them. Previously had a towbar fitted on a different car from a private company a lot lot cheaper so will probably go to them again.

From past experience with a lady friend's Freelander that she decided to go aftermarket rather than fit an LR towbar, LR were ruthless about repairing any electrical problem when she ended up needing a complete new wiring loom after the aftermarket installers cocked up the installing of a Witter tow bar to it that resulted in the immobiliser playing up, batteries flattening in a night, and the burglar alarm going off whenever we had rain. In the end she ended up going to court to get the installers to pay the dealers to fit the wiring loom, but she never got her warranty back, she also never bought another Land Rover. So do think very carefully before fitting non maker approved accessories to a car that is is still in warranty, LR will use it as a reason to decline any warranty claim for underbody corrosion or electrical systems.

If you want, you can always use the LR boxed electrical set with another brand of towbar. Or you can buy the LR wiring kit on line in its original box for 1/2 the LR price as the LR kit is made by Jaeger. If you look at my towbar fitting guide (stickied ast the top of the modifications section) you will see that the dedicated wiring kit needs no "wiring", as it just plugs in to the exisitng wiring loom.

I suspect Tim that maybe your friend FL2 was ruined buy not using a dedicated wiring kit??? I fitted my towbar on ther FL2 and the wiring kit has to be coded to the car etc so is not as straight forward as the RRE.

I got a normal flange type including single electrics supplied and fitted for £245 from a tobar specialist with a really good reputation.

Did anyone try the Bosal AK41 with vertical fitting? Any other brand with vertical fitting?

Just wondered if you went ahead and got a towbar. I'm in Aberdeen and can't decided whether to go for dealer towbar or go elsewhere.
