They are making plenty of cash from us.

The below is from autocar, looks like the evoque is a cash cow for JLR.

Jaguar and Land Rover sales jumped 21.9 per cent between March and December last year, according to owners Tata. The British car maker shifted 216,412 units with strong growth in China and Russia and saw its operating profit in the final quarter leap by 62.8 per cent year-on-year.

In the period from September to December 2011, JLR sales shot up 36.7 per cent to 86,322 units much of which was accounted for by sales of the new Range Rover Evoque.

The high showroom prices being achieved by the Evoque and other models were reflected in JLR’s huge jump in revenue, up 40.9 per cent from £2.66bn to £3.75bn in the same quarter. Some 32,000 Evoques were delivered to dealers in 2011.

JLR’s operating margins in the final four months of 2011 were up a significant 20.1 per cent with operating profits up 62.8 per cent from £462m to a huge £752m.

Parent company Tata Motors saw its own revenues jump 18.2 per cent between April and December 2011. Tata Motors sold 640,334 passenger and commercial vehicles between April and December 2011 up 8.2 per cent.

Can't be a "Cash Cow" just yet, that happens further down the line of a products life cycle. I am sure the development costs were significant! It will become a cash cow in a few years time, assuming that it retains the same interest and profitabilityVery Happy

Anyhow, I like to see manufacturing companies doing well, as opposed to say certain Media companies, Not mentioning any names!!

Just shows that if the products are right, they will sell easily even at premium prices. Maybach/Citroen/ FIAT and a few others must be very envious of JLR's 2011 performance. Just hope that it doesn't go to JLR's corporate head and we return to the old days of poor quality and not listening to the owners

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

Well for me they have not yet arrived, I must be one of the few owners of Land Rovers who has not suffered with any major, enjoyment spoiling faults on any of the 9 Land Rovers I have owned since 1996. I have owned what most of the press rate as the most unreliable LR's too, Disco 1 V8, Disco 2 TD5 Auto, Freelander 1 TD4......................... Defender TDi300, L322 RR. None has been cheap to keep serviced and only one (the TD5 Disco2) ever broke down leaving me to call out LRA. I grant that some have had niggling little faults but the local dealership was always able to fix them.

They could invest it in current production and customer service?

+1
I've had 6 Range Rovers before this one and a Defender, with no bad experiences whatsoever. You're not alone Tim.

RE: They are making plenty of cash from us.

I think it is great news a British based company is doing well, particularly in the car sector, generating much needed quality employment opportunities and fiscal revenues. Many of us feared TATA would not offer the same level of corporate support that Ford and BMW offered in the past, but that has not come to fruition, it seems the opposite.

On reliability, one of the main reasons I traded in my Vogue SE was its numerous faults, all tackled under warranty.......I got fed up going back to the dealer, hybrid BMW Ford electronics being main issue....
