The luxury (premium) car mat con? Don't upgrade mats until you've read this!

It's been a while since this one cropped up for discussion!......or did we get this one sorted.

Been following the thread with real interest but have yet to comment. I don't think it has been picked up before but as I just looked through the option sheet/price list my dealer gave me in September I noticed both the Dynamic and Prestige are both described as having premium car mats with edging. This is then at odds with the matrix/pricing given later in the document which has carpet mats for the Dynamic as standard and then premium as an option. My take is I think we're all getting what is the premium mat. Dynamic owners just then have to make sure they're not being charged for it! There is clearly an error in the document. The "super shag" mat is something else entirely and if you've persuaded your dealer to give you these then they didn't understand and you are one lucky person! One thing's for sure it's a bit of a pickle!

Certainly in talking to the dealer at christmas it was like the 'super shag' was a dealer only extra, but there definitely was a mat at no cost option on dynamic and a 66.67+vat premium mat listed. Has anyone got pics of the standard dynamic no cost mat?

I was trying to suggest that the description was probably 100% right, that dynamics and prestiges both come with the premium mats with edging, i.e. the ones that pretty much everyone seems to have been supplied as standard by the factory. The errors appeared in the price list only. As a dynamic owner you should not be paying for any mat supplied except perhaps this dealer fit extra.

Yes I think the £80 extra was for that Dealer fit Premium mat, but they had no idea if it was or not.

So instead I'm now the proud owner of a Range Rover Evoque Rubber Boot Mat instead of "Premium" mats, thanks to my dealer for sorting it out.

Still not sure where we stand officially on this, but my dealer agreed to change my Prestige floor mats as supplied from the factory for the Premium mats shown in the 2012 brochure. My argument was that the Dynamic is listed as having 'carpet mats with edging' whereas the Prestige is shown as having 'Premium carpet mats with edging', and any reasonable person reading the brochure would expect to get significantly better mats and indeed the 'Premium' mats of the same name illustrated on page 66.

For clarity, these were the mats I originally got (yesterday pick-up):

Those are the standard mats - I take it you have a pale (cirrus or ivory) interior based on the piping. The higher grade mats have metal "corners" and are totally different - about an inch thick (like a shag pile) - also don't have contrast piping. I posted a picture at some point earlier in this thread.

I think most people that paid for upgrade mats have basically got nothing for their money...

Yes, just to avoid confusion, the ones in my photo are the ones I rejected, and I am now going to get the thick pile ones.

Has the dealer agreed to exchange at no additonal cost? Or, when you say you are getting the thick pile mats, are you buying these yourself?

As I said, the dealer is replacing them. He has ordered them today, and they will be exchanged free of cost. (The reason I posted this was to encourage others to demand the same if they feel aggrieved by what was supplied).

To conclude, avoid buying your fitted car mats from the car dealers. They charge an excessive price. You are better off buying fitted car mats, from a company which specialises in making them. It may well be that the company actually makes the fitted car mats for the car manufacturer.
