TPMS not fitted after wheel swap at dealership

When i first got my car, I purchased some new alloys with the tires seperate which I asked to be put onto the vehicle before the handover.

This was all done and the old wheels were given to me. However, when i drove away I got a TPMS warning on the dashboard. It wasn't the end of the world as I would check the wheels regularly and couldn't find a time to drop the car off to be looked at due to working 06:00 - 18:00 shifts ('Please drop off or collect the car between 08:00-18:00).

It has been a year and i have just had the car serviced and asked for them to look into it. They told me that the TPMS were not put into the new wheels Mad.

As such, i have been told that to get them put into the wheels from the old ones, I would need to pay land rover for labour (after an error on their part?!).

Do I have a leg to stand on as all vehicles are required to be fitted with TPMS before leaving the dealership? Or do i have to bite the bullet and get bent over by LR, paying the cost?

RE: TPMS not fitted after wheel swap at dealership

Whilst it's not great the Dealer didn't think about the TPMS before or during doing the tyre swap so they could have advised you about the System and any associated sensor swapping charge upfront, ultimately they followed your instructions and swapped the wheels before handover, maybe assuming you knew about the lack of TPMS etc. So they can't entirely be to blame.

It is of course an MOT failure to have a faulty/missing TPMS on 2015 cars on.

You say you have the wheels and I guess therefore the sensors, so why not find a local tyre fitter to do the swap for you? rather than pay LR prices?

Why would you drive around with a TPMS sensor for a year??? As Phil said they did what you asked. Not great service and you may have an argument but feel a year later is pushing it!

You'd probably be better to buy some TPMS sensors and fit to your wheels at a normal tyre place as it would probably cost no more by the time you've stripped and re mounted 2 sets of wheels, and would the be unable to refit your originals should you want.

Tell 'em you got put away for two years for stabbing someone just after they fitted the tyres and you're now out on licence. I'm sure they'll be very helpful!

Please give the dealer details so that they can be avoided in future.

Apologies for being a bit of a killjoy but you might have even been driving around in an unroadworthy and uninsured car since you had the wheels changed and had no TPMS as the car is required to have it by law.............. Good job you didn't have an accident.
I wouldn't recommend removing the sensors from the old wheels and moving to the new ones, they are easily damaged. You can afford 4 new wheels surely you can afford the £250 it costs to buy 4 additional sensors?

Are they for the pre 2014MY cars or post 2014? There are different systems depending on the model year.

Yes those are the post 2014MY version, the pre 2014MY were just a large flat grey "pad" that sat inside the rim
