TOWBAR GUIDE as at 27/08/12 (already on version 2!)

I do wish that we were offered the receiver type hitch mount that 2ndChance / US owners and I believe Australian owners can have. It is so much more versatile and so many different fittings can be added to them without having to clamp things onto a "ball". My first FFRR had the receiver stye removable system as factory fitted and all the attachments - tow hook, recovery eye, bike rack all just located into the receiver and had a pin with secure spring pin to keep them in place. The only problems with it were a) sometimes the attachments would rattle in the receiver and b) if you didn't remove the fittings for a couple of months then ( like the UK style removable tow hook) they would corrode into place and were very difficult to remove.

Just a quick followup on this. The Curt wiring harness now has the correct plug on it so no more needing to do your own modifications.

Another update. The Curt hitch in fact does not appear to have been modified. I finally got mine fitted but it required cutting the rear bumper. The forward mounting hole at the front on the drivers side needed elongating as it did not match the location of the captive bolt in the frame. And the forward bolt was too long and required extra washers to be used otherwise it ran out of thread. Extremely disappointed. Looks ok now it's fitted but Curt need to step up their game or stop selling this particular hitch. It's just not worth the hassle.

Where is your location

Yesterday I had a Westfalia towbar fitted to my Dynamic. It was fitted by Phil Taylor Towbars at Horndean (north of Portsmouth) and in my opinion is a very neat and tidy fit.

Looks to me like LR has possibly redesigned the rear diffuser so it no longer needs to be cut to make the detachable towbar fit, a thing too!

I'm getting a tow bar fitted in two weeks time at A1 Towbars factory in Sheffield. It is their own design/manufacture.

Swan-neck detachable, powder coated, swing away socket, only needs a tiny trim to the valance. The price with a LR wiring harness is extremely competitive. Similar price to others with a third party by-pass relay wiring.

As its new and not listed on the guide at the top of the thread, I'll take some pictures and report back.
