Real world mpg

Now that some of us have our cars what mpg are you getting?
The best I have got is 34 mpg on a long run sd4 auto 600 miles on the clock

Probably what i would expect, i would hope to get around 40mpg average on my td4 manual when it eventually turns up in the distant future.

Have you calculated that or is it off a trip computer? there usually optomistic!

Worked out using a calculator computer is actually under reading by0.2mpg!

Well that's less than 1% error but you are of course relying on the odometer being correct which will in turn depend on the inflation of the tyres. If you have access to a GPS, you can get the exact distance travelled.

The claimed Official Combined for my SD4 Coupe Auto is 43.5mpg.................... in the past I have have had no problem with my Range Rovers in getting extremely close to the Official Combined figure but so far, with 3400 miles up, by my own spreadsheet I have averaged 38.45mpg since new best has been 47.6mpg on a motorway run last week to Edinburgh, trip average on the trip computer for a 60 mile trip. I shall be taking this up with the local dealer for investigation if it hasn't improved by 10000 miles.
I realise that the Official figures are obtained by a combination of magic and throwing ashes in the air and watching them fall but it should be much closer to the official figure than it is, 5mpg average down is a lot by my experience.

What was the final tally with your FFRR...

28.1mpg over 19000 miles, including several days spent offloading in low ratio that knocked the consumption down to about 7 - 10mpg average over a day off-road - mine was the 3.6 2010MY not the 4.4 which is supposed to be better. On a motorway run I could get the trip average up to 34-35 mpg sticking to the speed limits and avoiding roadworks. Makes the Evoques consumption more disappointing for a much lighter and more aerodynamic car. My 2007MY 3.6TDv8 RRS achieved 27.8mpg over it's 28000 mile life, the difference between the two cars - FFRR is lighter and the 6th gear is longer so better economy. My 2005 2.7 TDv6 RRS averaged 27.4mpg over 33000 miles. TD6 FFRR managed only 26.3mpg over 27000 miles. TD6 was the most disappointing engine I have had in a car - BMW 3.0 straight 6, gutless and crude and I wouldn't ever own a BMW on the basis of that engine.

Yep your right .... when AutoCar averaged 30mpg in the RRE during their testing, tests that saw the FFRR achieving 28mpg comments were made that these tests weren't indicative of the differential between the two cars .... I'm getting a bit concerned that it was. Quite how a 4 cylinder 2.2 diesel in 1 tonne lighter car with what I would suspect is a much smaller frontal area can only achieve 6-7 mpg more is beyond me.

On our short journeys we have averaged only 27.2mpg in our SD4 according to the onboard display. This is indicative to my wife's FL2 with the same engine which over the same type of journeys achieves 26.9mpg...the FFRR 5.0 Supercharged that I'm testing states its ave is 19mpg, a mix of short & long runs has shown it to achieve an 14.1mpg ave - a damn sight better than my 4.2S/C which is only achieving 11.8mpg.

Knowing the 'mpg test' that all car manufacturers use I think if you are achieving mid 30's mpg in a SD4 engine in real life you are doing exceptionally well, as the official compliancy test used is ridiculous and bears no resemblance to how we actually use our vehicles on a daily basis, given we all drive differently and on different routes/journeys...

I like Tim usually get at least the figure given or above. In my RR I easily got 32 mpg. In all my RRS except the 2010 model I got a min of 30...the RRS 2010 was meant to give 10% more, but I got 10% less...28 at best...hence the change to the RRE. After a week in the RRE and 600 miles, I have averaged 37.3. This is an SD4 manual, and 550 miles on the M/way....it needs to pick up soon!!
