Raised boot floor with full size spare

Anyone had any success with making a new boot floor to fit over a full-size spare wheel?

What would be good to use?

Thanks!

RE: Raised boot floor with full size spare

Never tried putting one of the wheels in the spare wheel well, does it fit? I think it would seriously compromise luggage space.

If you want to make something, plywood would be a good place to start with dark grey carpet tiles stuck on to disguise your handiwork. You can think of a rigid box which slots in over the wheel well but other accessories like the rubber tray wouldn't then fit on top of it.

Done properly, it might work but otherwise, there will be a sniggering noise when you go into the dealer... Still, they'd love to read about it in Caravan and Camping magazine.

Evoque was great, now in an RRS SVR

There's a photo on the thread at http://babyrr.com/forum/Thread-full-size-spare-wheel showing it fitting (with foam inserts removed) but sticking up 9cm into luggage area - putting boot floor on top prevents boot closing, so need some sort of custom floor with a bulge.

Wouldn't be too bothered normally as I've had no punctures so far in 16 years driving, but shipping the Evoque to Kenya in September to use there with bad roads and can't just call for Land Rover Assist.

Sounds like an Expedition Roofrack with spare carrier might be the way to go, won't look nice but you can get security and covers for them. Try Mantec in the UK who make all kinds of bump guards and specialised racks for most Land Rover products. The other option is to go for a roof box although that wouldn't necessarily prevent determined people from breaking into it as the lock on them look quite flimsy.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.
