Pirelli tyre wear

Was doing some checks on my car today and checked over the tyres so ensure pressures are ok and no damage etc, cars has worked hard lately and wanted to make sure all was ok.

I know there has been alot of discussion around tyres and Pirellis, I have been really impressed with all of the attributes of them, the nice quiet and smooth ride, great grip and consistent tyre wear.

For all of you private buyers thought I would take some photos of the tyres at 24000 miles and the rears are even better

Quite impressive.

In both of those pictures I can't see the tread depth blocks in the grooves.

I have been pleasantly surprised at how well my Craptinentals are wearing. They are wearing much better than the Cross Contacts that I had on both the FFRR and the 2.7TDv8 RRS I had. The 3.6TDv8 RRS had Pirellis that hardly worn much as opposed to the Craptinentals that lasted less than 20,000 miles on the front of the 2.7RRS, on that car they wore out the outside shoulders despite lots of alligment checks and wheel rebalancing. It didn't help that LR had a problem with the balance weights being stuck on with double sided sticky tape that didn't even last on the wheel to the end of the production line.......... where they apparrently found a huge amount of shed wheel balance weights when they had a clear out! After that they started putting the weights on the proper way not the cheap way.

Are you serious - lets hope they aren't skimping in any other ways!! My other concern is with all this new production and extra workforce to cope with orders that they are fully and properly trained before they let them anywhere near the production floor!

The Volvo C30 I drive keeps wearing concave grooves in the inner edges despite continual 4 wheel laser alignment. That was running Pirelli so have actually tried changing to crapinentals just to see if it makes a difference, 15000 and bald edges, so if those tyre are 25000 it looks like you'll get 50000+ out of front tyres, which is amazing! when I took both my summers and winters off there was little sign of wear but then mileage is low anyway.

Measured the tread depths today, pretty much 5 mm across the tyre, middle and outer edges

I must confess that the Pirelli Verde tyres on mine are performing very well and after 16,000 miles don't look anywhere near worn, and i am quite hard on tyres especially as I go everywhere at speed.

I would have put a new set on my BMW 335i by now, they were Potenza's

Wow - very impressive. I havent measured the tread on 5,000 mile Pirellis but they do look like they've hardly worn at all!

I went for pirellis on my 335i after two sets of potenzas and they do seem to have wore more evenly than the Bridgestones
