Panoramic Roof - Insurance impact. IMPORTANT.

The insurance companies must be trying it on as they have the category with the RRE of "lux pack" against the relevant model and the pan roof is part of that pack. I would therefore argue that they know what the car has as a factory spec and therefore unless specifically mentioned as an exclusion, it must be covered.
I hopefully collect my Dynamic with lux pack next Saturday and will be quizzing the dealer on this too.
Hope to be driving mine very soon, can't wait.

So a quick delve into the top motor insurers in the UK which between them account for 55% of all cars insured shows:-
RBS Insurance
Directline, Churchill and Privilege, you're covered, the wording is the same on all the policy documents and makes reference to "Sunroofs" being covered.
RBS Insurance also includes NIG (commercial insurance) and UKI partnerships (an underwriter specialising in "White Label" insurance including car insurance through RBS Bank and Natwest. The likelyhood is that the policy wording is the same for these companies also.
AVIVA
We've already ascertained that you're covered (they're my current insurere and I've checked the wording)

LV (Liverpool Victoria)
Doesn't make specific reference to sunroof only windscreen and windows. There is no definition of a window so you can reasonably argue the point that the roof is a window. A quick check for a definition of window gives "an opening in the wall of a building, the side of a vehicle, etc., for the admission of air or light, or both"

AXA
NOT COVERED "We will not pay to repair or replace any other glass forming part of your car including sunroofs"

Royal Sun Alliance (More Than)
Covered. "If the windscreen, windows or glass sunroof of your car becomes cracked or broken, call the Glass Helpline. If repairs aren’t possible then you’ll get a replacement but will have to pay the windscreen excess"

Thanks for your efforts/advice, very helpful. We all are now aware what to look out for, which could save pounds if the worst were to happen.

For those with Landrover Insurance I just checke the policy cover under the windscreen and windows section......


We will not pay claims for the repair or replacement of sunroofs, glass roofs, panoramic windscreens, lights/ reflectors or folding rear windscreen assemblies under this section

My ensure policy states the following:-

Covered - replacement glass in the windscreen, side or rear windows

NOT COVERED - damaged or broken glass in sunroofs or fixed or moveable glass roof panels. Replacement of the hood/roof structure of a convertible vehicle.

So looks like I am not covered for the panoramic roof, which is disappointing, but I would have been more annoyed if I had a convertible and then found that my roof wasn't insured!!!!!!!!!!!!

@DaveR - can't quite fathom that a LandRover endorsed / sold policy excludes components fitted by them and part of the fabric of the vehicle - is the inference that it might be covered under another section of the policy or have they just completely excluded it? Pretty poor if so...

@mywillia - what makes you think your covered if your policy mentions a sunroof? It's not a sunroof. I have glass cover but it doesn't include the lights, indicators or mirrors either.

Landrovers own definition of the roof is "panoramic sunroof" Also 12 years of experience working for insurance companies and a wife with 25 years experience in Insurance, latterly quality checking claims handlers, also tells me your covered!

Who are your insurers?. It's perfectly possible that the roof is excluded, As I keep saying it's down to the wording of your policy. If you think the roof isn't covered, name and shame the insurer
