Paint Protection Systems?

Only ever had one applied to one car - a White Rover 220Turbo Coupe, years ago, never kept the car long enough to find out if the treatment was any good............ so what are people's views on spending lots of money to get the car treated with one of these special "glazing"/ sealing/ paint protection treatments that are available? One system I have found costs £1700 for a Freelander2 size car...............

There are plenty of others like Diamondbrite/ Autogleam.

Or is just spending £300 a couple of times a year on a professional detail money better spent?

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: Paint Protection Systems?

How long do you plan on keeping the vehicle? - is the question I ask myself.
More than a year and I get it done.

Personal preference is superguard, which is not as good as some of the others, but needs no additives in the wash water and no TLC. Done and forgotten, lasts a couple of years.

That does me for how long the car will stay with me.

I never get my cars detailed because I can clean it myself quite well and in a few weeks it'll be dirty again anyway.
Plus I find getting a good result when cleaning very satisfying.

As for £1700 for a Freelander... Laughing

Fox I too am sceptical about these systems - superguard was the system I did try as it was not hugely expensive. I have only ever had one car "detailed" and that was my last RRS. Looked fantastic for a few days until I drove along the M8 in the summer heat when they were doing road repairs and the car got covered in tar! It was no easier to clean it off after a detail than after normal wash................ the ablitiy to hide road grim is one reason why I like Stornoway grey

My valeter told me the materials for Supaguard cost about £20 – and is something I should never bother with. He said he couldn’t tell a car that had it done from one that hadn’t ........ apart from the sticker!

Well this chap has all the stuff to do it - and the garages he does it for charge their customers upwards of £350 a pop for him to do it. He was happy to do it for me on all my cars for the cost of the materials plus £50 - so three cars for £110 - but he still said it wouldn't be worth it. So - yes - I think I would rather believe him than some salesman who's main motivation would be the commission from the deal on what, on the face of it, looks like an incredibly high margin product.

Interesting.
When you said "valeter" I assumed he'd prefer to come round and clean the car more regularly, rather than someone who did the superguard.
Must be the cynic in me.

Yes, I have a contract with him - but he comes every two weeks regardless. So if Supaguard would have made his life easier I assume he would have taken me up on the offer.

I've just looked on the Gardex website.................... one guess which car they show on their main photo? http://www.gardx.co.uk/

Would you mind me asking how much that costs?
