OBD remap / Tuning Box recommendations for the SD4

Hi folks,
New on here and just looking to gain feedback from folks who have either done an OBD remap or using a tuning box. A pro rolling road remap is an option but do fear it being wiped at some point during a service etc..

I'm fully aware of the insurance notification, also not bothered by fuel saving, what i'm looking to smooth out is the flat spots in the gearbox and stuttered pull which appears to be an Evoque trait from reading the forums.

Looked into the Race chip, BlueSpark, Bluefin but real world experience of them or others welcome.

If you use the forum search function you will find quite a few posts about various makes of tuning box and ECU recaps. One of the forum sponsors does an ECU exchange scheme - it is expensive but he is one of the best and specialises in Land Rover remap products. In the sponsors section look at Bell Auto Services - BAS - Pete Bell is very highly regarded in the LR world. Other people specializing in LR remaps to fix your issues are also around. This will be a better option than going to some of the people you mention who are not specialists in Land Rover cars, but sell a general tuning box.

Apologies for reopening this thread but interested in getting my car remapped . There’s a local tuner doin it my area for 250 a stage 1 . They seem legit will need to speak to them of course . My car is out of warranty and I really don’t like the lag pulling off at lights . I got a 2.2 sd4 I think is 190 bhp.

Questions

Does this cause long term issues on engine gearbox or can the evoque handle it . Would be interested in people opinions on real world remaps.

Anyone who has had a remap give a review if they think it’s worth it or regret it . Happy to hear both opinions .

I have seen these tuning boxes but I saw a video by Sa tuning on YouTube slagging them off as too basic and not good long term for car .

I’m based in south London by the way in case people want to recommend a tunning shop.

I would suggest that you avoid these “backstreet” tuners, try BAS who is highly regarded in the Land Rover remap world and developed an Evoque remap using his own car.

I had a professional remap done on my SD4 about 3 years ago, and i fully recommend it.
I get noticeable more torque, and the economy improved by a solid 10%.
The turbo lag is still there (a remap cannot irradiate this), however, the extra torque makes it better then before.
IMO, It safe to say, the gearbox can handle the extra torque in general normal real world motoring, so long as your not a driver who thrashes the thing around 100% of the time from 0-100kph etc etc.

He can do the remap on an exchange ECU basis, no need to travel to him.
