On a side note (figured I'd ask here than opening a new thread), anyone from NJ/NY area or those who use EZPASS? Have you tried putting it in the top most part by the rear view mirror, the area where it's blacked out? Does the glass still interfere there? I tried the ezpass tag on the cut out portion and it's a hit or miss thing, so now I fixed it in the blacked out ear right on top of rear view mirror and will try it out later.

Also, what is that black box on the top part of the rear view, to the right of it, on the other side of the blacked out area of the glass? Anyone have an idea what that is?

IIRC it's the sensor for the auto-on wipers or the auto-on headlights.

Thanks!! I thought it was for the garage door, or something that emits a signal similar to the toll tags.... oh well looks like I will have to try it myself if my tag placement works or if i get a toll penalty lol....

There are threads about toll tags and where to site them on the forum, try using the search function. IIRC the solar reflective screen is standard on US cars and that causes problems for toll tags but there is supposed to be an untreated area behind the rear view mirror that is left uncoated

Actually did some search but almist everyone was either saying to try the clear part without the film or use an external tag. Figured id try the one in the black area.

OK just an update. I placed the internal ezpass tag in the blacked out part on the topmost of the windshield, just behind the rearview mirror. I tried a go at the toll booth and it read it!! I'm gonna do a few more toll booth passes before I decide to NOT install the external tag when it arrives.

Also, from this blacked out part of the window, the tag is not visible from the outside.

Thanks Bangsters. That's good to know. I hate putting stickers in the windshield, even an ezpass (out here in WA ST. we call them "Good to GO"). Sounds like you are enjoying your new ride as much as I am. This summer I've looked for any excuse for a road trip. Heck, just driving down to get doughnuts on Saturday is an event now. Looking forward to winter (of course, I need to get M+S tyres; I didn't realize until after I got the car and started reading the forums that my car didn't come with them.) Ski season is coming!

Unless it is a legal requirement to fit winter tyres I would wait a winter to see if you still think you really need M+S tyres. The Grass, Gravel and Snow setting of the Terrain Response helps keep you going without having to resort to having a spare set of wheels and tyres. I ran a 500 mile trip on the OEM Continental 20" tyres on the last car in 3-6" of snow and slush on UK motorways using the GGS setting and the car behaved inpeccably. I have a set of Pirelli Ice and Snow tyres on a spare set of 19" wheels for mine and for the last 2 winters they have sat in my garage unused.

Not concerned about snow where I live, not too much in Winter. I ski, and there are two ski areas each about two hours away from where I live (on an island about halfway between Seattle and Vancouver BC, CAN.). While traction tyres are not always required, they are often advised. In our state, as long as you have 4wd, then you are good to go with M+S tyres. In fact, most of the cars sold here are already equipped with such, which is why I assumed the Evoque had them as well. It just didn't occur to me to look, not that it would have been a deal breaker; merely a delay in looking for the proper rubber. Cheers

OEM tires here in the US (like the Continental CrossContact UHP) are M + S rated Extreme Performance Summer Tires.

Beats me how they got the M+S Rating on a summer tire but they do NOT perform well in snow - that being said, they'll get you from point A to point B as long as you drive carefully.
