My car was the most admired in the carpark until......

9 Renault Avantimes pulled in, a car I have always admired. It appears the Avantime owners club are having a tour of the Lakes for the Vank Holiday. Avantime is a futuristic coupe built by Matra for Renault a nd it was way ahead of its time being plastic bodied.

Edit: just caught two Avantime owners peering in through my pano roof to see inside, so did the honours for them - verdict "it's beautiful", the leather is much better than Matras!"
If you think Evoque has a large Panoramic roof you should see the size of the Avantime's
must be at least 50% bigger!

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

Oh, and I'm glad your spell check opted for Vank instead of Bank as, depending on your web surfing practices, it could have opted for something far far worse.

I drove an Avantime across country a fair few years ago, got some very admiring looks, and shock when I left people standing at lights, have to say was very unusual very easy rear access with the bi-folding doors, Nice 3.0 litre engine gave it some real acceleration, especially when not paying the fuel bill at 11mpg. Much nicer car than the Vel-Satis.

They are HUGE cars and only 4 seaters at that IIRC they were base on the Safrane or Espace chassis! You can see where recent Clios got their weird rear from. One of the cars here, a mettalic black one out of shot has the registration M4TRA. It isn't often Renault comes out with a show car that names it to production but this one did. It is still beaten in my view by the Citroen SM, a coupe version of the original DS built by Masseratti for Citroen I think

Always wanted a Matra Rancho when I was young, luckily one drive of a second-hand one once I'd passed my test made me see sense. Although looking at the styling, maybe there was still something inside me that made me go for that Series II Discovery many years later?
