MPG... What's the problem?

Just rechecked weights on LR site. SD4 auto or manual from 1685kg
Still not heavy enough to really affect consumption so much compared to others.
I suspect aero dynamics has a lot to do with it as many people, myself included, get reasonable cruising consumption upto about 60mph but it tails off a lot at higher speeds.
Just to make us all feel worse, a friend of mine has just bought an Alpina D3 (BMW 3 series coupe) 214BHP & 450mn Torque, he sees 70+ mpg on a motorway cruise and can not get it to do less than 40mpg no matter how he drives it.
It doesnt look as good as the Evoque though

Be interesting to know the real world fuel consumption of Jaguar XF with what is essentially the same diesel engine installed? It has an impressive drag coefficient figure of 0.29.
The Evoque has a pretty average (but good for an SUV) drag coefficient figure of ..... 0.35 5-door / 0.36 Coupe.

Had a look on the xf forum, seems they quoting av of about 40/42 for the 2.2, though saying you could get mid to high 40's easily on the motorway.

So thats about an av of 6.5 - 7 L/100kms, and motorway av of 5.5 - 6 L/100kms. Appear to be a bit closer to the figures then our lot. Cheers for that info.

Don't forget the D3 will be totally useless in the current weather conditions.

My previous car was a BMW 120D M Sport Coupe, I averaged 36MPG on my trip to work, currently getting 25 in my evoque. On a motorway I would get well in the mid 50s in the BMW - even at 80MPH

Drove our D4 today. Outside temp-1, distance 27.4 miles, mpg 29.7, av speed 42mph. Had 2 adults and 2 kids on board. Not too sure of weight of car, says from 2570kg, gross weight 3240kg. Happy with that and don't think it totally useless....

The only real way to compare is to drive both over a few days covering the same routes, at the same time of day, the same driving conditions and of course the same driver! As we all have different styles. I did recently when my loan car was the XF. See my earlier post - XF was better but marginally in my view.

I think i detect a hint of confusion here! I'm talking about BMW alpina D3 (speary's comment) being totally useless in snow as are all rear wheel drive BMW 's and I'm talking from experience. I am not aware Alpina have made a D4, correct me if I'm wrong. I am pleased you are happy with your car and I am sure it is a very capable vehicle.
