Probably an example of the factory dictating to the distributor what they can have; based on current sales in the particular market. The more the local distributor sells, the more say they have with the factory.

Pugracer, do you get a choice of gearbox?

Also I'm sure that some markets like the USA, Singapore, China and a few more will only get the petrol engine - usually for such reasons as those countries don't have good enough low sulphur /city diesel. Ford came a cropper at the Detroit Motorshow a few years back when they wanted to demo the Focus TDcI.................. after the first few tanks had been emptied they found they had no more suitable fuel left in the US and had to import Ultra Low Sulphur diesel from Europe!

No, no choice of gearbox. All automatic. As much as I like a manual box, it's difficult to find a car selling here with manual box as an option.
We have the highest spec of fuel here in Hong Kong. however, the government is following the strictness anti pollution standard it can find in the world for private cars. Thus, the only vehicle that can pass those standards and registered as a diesel private car here is Audi Q7. Not that our air is anywhere close to clean, though.

RE: Help - Spec overload!

Decided I'm going to bite the bullet and order the Prestige instead of the Pure. It's still hard to justify, but I really don't want to spend this much an a car and then find I'm disapointed in some aspect of it. Roll on December ???

Are you saying that all Evoque's sold in Hong Kong will be petrol? No diesels because they don't pass the aforementioned standards?

RE: Help - Spec overload!

@Kermit YES! If you want a LR in HK, you can only get Disco or Defender. On both, a metal partition need to be installed after the 2nd row of seats and the back windows need to be replaced with solid panels. Then, you can register that as a commercial van and use diesel. Not all vehicles can do this because the goods compartment at the back needs to be at least the same size as the passenger space in the 2nd row.
@Tim that will be extremely helpful!

RE: Help - Spec overload!

Singapore has a similar "thing" about cars having petrol of LPG engines and commericials having diesels.
