It will be engine water temperature, which is a good measure of engine temperature.

I noticed same on Auto Cabin setting it doesn't pour heat out with fans on full like some cars try to.

Bit of confusion here.

The 2 rotary dials with numbers on relate to cabin temperature.

The temp in the screen dash indicates outside temperature.

If you have the heater set on auto, it would help if the rotary dials are set to 23 or higher to get full heating benefit.

I hate the fact that the two dials dont work synchronously! Annoying! My old car had a dual zone and single zone button... Much easier

Read you manual, it tells you how to defrost quickly. Its just 1 button

The numbers on the heating controllers are not temperatures they are settings - RTFM

The gauge in the driver info screen that has a bar graph on it is the engine coolant temperature indicator (it should move from its lowest indication up to mid graph looking like a temperature gauge) and as Evo states the digital temperature in the top right of the dash is the OUTSIDE temperature IIRC the sensor is just behind the front grille

I think that they are supposed to approximate the temperature, other wise the scale would start at 1 like a volume control. These start at 16 I think

I would have thought the same. In the manual it says "rotate to select a temperature" and it mentions that you can only have each side 4°C apart. What would the point of this be if they did not indicate approximate temp.

The attached photo shows them in °F.

It would be interesting to see if these can be changed by changing the temperature units in the set-up menu or if that just does the outside temp only.

That's why I suggested numbers 23 as someone already reported heating starts to work well on that setting or higher.

The single push button is the max defrost, which, switches on heated front screen, heated rear screen, heated wing mirrors, high speed blower setting and a/c.

At least where I live there's not a chance in hell that someone will steal my car with the engine running (too remote). But then I'd not want to compromise the DPF. That said, I didn't realise that my Freelander 2 had a DPF until recent postings told me so, and I've never damaged it in the past by pre-warming the cabin.

IKM, your car is probably like mine - it doesn't have to do a lot of stop start motoring in commuter traffic, as you say that shouldn't be a problem as the DPF is getting hot enough to burn off the particulate that is created - it's stop/start/ low revs and idling that really clogs up the DPF (or so I have been warned by the dealer and LRA)
