Fuel economy , finally a big improvement

3450 miles on the clock so far on the SD4 manual

The car has been averaging 441 miles between fill ups of 55 ltrs ish so averaging between 36.5 to 38.5 mpg

If you use vpower diesel you can grab a touch more mpg

However i have now fitted an economy module which adds more low down torque

510 miles out of the last 54.78 ltrs with just the same driving as before

42.26 mpg of mixed driving the best so far

But still nowhere near the 49.6 mpg land rover reckons !

Is anybody actually getting anywhere near the land rover number ?

SD4 Arrived, Fuji , 20" style wheels, Privacy glass, Front fogs, Auto wiper and Auto Lights, Black leather

I have no affiliation at all with this company .

I popped down to there garage the other day after seeing an advert on the net. I have used lots of economy / tuning boxes from a variety of companies on all of my diesel cars.

I phoned them first to ask a few questiJons first , they answered them to my satisfaction so i decided to call round.

The box they supplied me took 2 mins to fIt , cr tech 2 multimap which has been preset for economy rather than power. It still gives a good torque boost and makes the car effortless on the motorway.

I knew that from experience the cars mpg readout would be fooled by fitting one of these modules. Because of the way they work. I ran a similar box on my last audi with dpf for 92,000 miles with no issues at all.

So i used the milage readout and a calculator to see if it really did anything

Well after 441 miles being the max milage from 55 ltrs as standard , i had a bench mark.

I fitted the box the last tank did 510 miles out of 54.78 ltrs
The computer recconex 45 mpg , caculator says 42.26

The box is made by http://www.bluesparkautomotive.com/

Its a 2 minute job to fit and is fully adjustable for economy or power

If you look on ebay there are many similar boxes

SD4 Arrived, Fuji , 20" style wheels, Privacy glass, Front fogs, Auto wiper and Auto Lights, Black leather

RE: Fuel economy , finally a big improvement

Well I did a 120 mile trip to Edinburgh and back last evening and sat on the motorway 95% of the way at 70mph and 1850RPM and the trip computer never showed more than 31.2mpg so mine is getting worse and the conditions couldn't have been better - warm conditions, not a breath of wind and light traffic all the way into the centre of Edinburgh. The lack of economy is really my only disappointment with the car and TBH my last FFRR would have done 34mpg under the same conditions and it was a hitech brick with 3.6ltrs of twin turbo V8.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

Can't see what the problem is really, mine gets around 40 to 43 day in day out. Best mpg so far 46 on a long motorway cruise. No chipping, no modules - just driving at or below the speed limits.

RE: Fuel economy , finally a big improvement

Just returned from an 1100 mile trip to Edinburgh, Sutherland and Skye. Took the scenic route for most of the way. Fully loaded with Bags and 2 teenagers. Returned 36.8 according to the trip computer. Relatively happy with that. total now 6400 miles and it's still only broken down once.
