Facelift rear light led failed? Water Ingress?

Pretty pi?&ed off. Had a set of facelift black pack rear lights fitted to my evoque for maybe year and a half now. Bought new but not from LR so no warrenty recourse.

Noticed as the wife drove off no side light or brake light on one side. Looked at unit when she returned and you can see water swishing round the red section of the sealed rear light, so presumably the reason for the unit failing.

Took the light out and tried hair drying to dry it out and airing cupboard to no avail.

Guess it's a new light so pretty annoyed. Does anyone know if the various 6/7 screws allow the light to be spilt and any advice if possibly repairable ?

This is exactly what happened to myself! Bought a so called new pair from fleabay, fitted and for a couple of months all was well. Colleague from work noticed no brake light, upon investigation it was about a third full of water, the indicator was still functioning though. So removed unit and dried it out. I basically ran a line of black sealant around the top of the light, water was getting where the rubber seal is fitted. The rubber seal is useless, junk it and fill the gap with sealant, it's worked fine for myself since then.
You can't open it up as it's heat sealed. The screws you noticed hold the indicator moulding to the rear part of the light, don't undo them as it's a nightmare to line up the indicator moulding to resecure to the back piece. They are special 5 point torx screws anyway.
It's funny that it was only one which failed, as the other one has been fine.

How did you dry it out and get rid of the water in there? I tried with a hairdryer and pointing through the bulb access, but didn't do much.

I went through 4 RHS Tail Lights because of this - eBay seller was a wholesaler so helped me out everytime until i got one that didnt let water in. I also tried to open the light but in the end decided it wasnt worth it because after i dried it out with a heatgun, the water was back in the next day!

So, is this an issue with RHS lights generally then ( as in Oem fitted) or ones available via sources such as ebay? I got mine through ebay but can't recall who!

Its an issue with RHS lights - quite well documented on the majority of forums - don't think i have read of any LHS ones having a problem. But they claim the 'active membrane' design is for humidity purposes and will dry out - complete nonsense! I think they even wrote that in the Owners Manual as well... Drying it out was a waste of time as the next time the car was washed it was full of water again. I just complained until the seller sent me another, then another, and then another, the last one being 'condensation free' for now......

Sounds like it doesn't happen when OEM lights are used, only cheap Chinese imitations from eBay.

Mine are oem Land Rover but retro fitted.

I refitted the old ones and put the waterlogged one in the drying cupboard for about 5 days, that dried it out. I thought that the electronics might have been damaged with the water but once dried out, it worked fine. And mine were legit Land Rover parts not Chinese copies.

Incorrect. All the Lights I purchased were OEM Lights from Land Rover Specialists. Even tried used lamps. This is a problem with OEM Lights. A search on this forum will turn up many cases of this happening on even brand new cars.
