Evoque Side Steps.

Do you think they suit the Evoque or not? I had them on both Freelander's I have owned but can't make up my mind as to whether to put them on the Evoque or not.
Where have folk purchaced their's from?

I know of three forum members that have this type..

I dithered over these as well, but after a close shave with a door dent I decided to try for my Holland trip and remove after if I didnt like them, I havent removed them and I really like the look of them on the Dynamic. (see my thread for some pics), easy fit, although the dynamic brackets have a fiddly extra support bar.

Upsides, Gives the car a lower look, handy step that helps shorter people get in although I still step passed them unless in an awkward space, Reaching the roof is now a doddle, may stop people hitting your side (but they are too low so wont physically get in the way of a car door)

Downsides, the brackets look like airbrakes and I reckon I'm down an mpg or 2 (not fully qualified yet), Not being LR the quality is a bit down on finish. They slightly restrict access to the jacking points, but not a problem so far. Wont help offroading as reduces ground clearance and brackets may dig in mud or snow.

One problem with sidesteps off road is that if they catch on something they tend to rip the floorpan out of the car as the brackets try to give up......................... best to remove them if you are planning to go somewhere where you need the ground clearance. My neighbour managed to rip the floor pan out of an Izuzu Trooper driving across a field and she got some wire trapped on one.............. car was written off as the damage was too expensive (not extensive though!) to repair

I had sidesteps on my Disco 4 because of the height - most notably in off-road mode. But I think they look odd on vehicles Freelander height and lower.

I do appreciate why some folks like them but to my mind they don't serve a significant enough purpose.

They are a great combination with a roofbox, and certainly serve their purpose when loading items into the box to go away, especially if your under 6' tall.

Practical Yes, Look Good.... Errrmm..... No, Not for me but each to thier own, I don't think the Evoque is Big enough to carry them off!

A few weeks ago I had somebody run into the side of the car on a small motorbike and their front wheel hit the side bars with a thud!

As you can see from the photos the stainless cover over the edge of the bar took a hefty whack but thank god, the rider was ok and the door wasn't touched..

The rider bounced off the bars, we had a few words! and all was ok..

Definitely doesn't do anything for me. Reaching the top box is even easier when the door sills are here to be stood on! They're deep enough and flat enough.

Purpose served Cutter! Good job no harm done to your Evoque or Rider.

I certainly wouldn't keep them on for off-roading but unlikely to be doing any of that yet, may even remove them for the winter but not decided yet as I did lock-tite all the bolts!.

Suits the Dynamic in my view...
