Economy SD4: Manual vs Auto

Combined mpg (l/100km)
50.2 (5.6) manual
43.0 (6.6) auto (5dr)
44.3 (6.4) auto (3dr)

Why such a large difference? Different gearbox/final drive ratios?

RE: Economy SD4: Manual vs Auto

That’s why the 8 speed gearbox is coming. With the X3 the 8 speed auto gearbox is more economical than the manual.... maybe the Evoque will be the same. Shame its not out at launch. The economy of the Auto is my biggest disappointment.

SD4 Prestige Sport Auto 5 Door, Sumatra Black with Ambience interior, Magneride AD, 20" Style 6 Wheels, Panoramic Roof, Surround Cameras, Electric Tailgate, ADRVM.......& Heated Steering Wheel......Gorgeous

RE: Economy SD4: Manual vs Auto

X5 I would modify your comment - I wouldn't entertain a RANGE ROVER in anything other than an auto - in fact even the Freelander2 and Disco4 are better cars for being autos - but a Defender.................... I won't say never, but I would prefer a manual everytime as you can control your speed offroad so much more easily.

BTW I stated elsewhere in the forums that if you intend to take your Evoque offroad then i would recommend the auto over the manual as Freelander clutches are a little easily cooked if you have to slip them a lot and also very expensive to replace once cooked.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.
