Convertible to be resurrected??

I have read in What Car that they predict that the Evoque Convertible will be launched in June 2015 along with the mid-life face lift of the car. This is backed up by somebody reporting back that during a factory visit they saw roofless Evoques on the production line and on asking what they were their factory guide replied "2015"! Perhaps Pete might be able to confirm that the ragtop Evoque is coming for 2016MY..................

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

There are some pictures on here dating back to early 2012 if the design is still the same, unfortunately it looks like a Mk2 Ford Escort XR3i convertable AKA a bath tub.

Since we looked at the Jaguar F type on Tuesday, convertables are never going to look the same again - we get to drive one for the day next week - can't wait!.

I'm jealous Tony, I know If I let myself step into a Jag Showroom, I wont walk out without buying, probably a F-Type Coupe... so won't let myself near one!

RE: Convertible to be resurrected??

I've not driven one yet but have been a passenger in both a V8 convertible and a V8 Coupe. They were both brilliant but the rag top hasn't enough room in the boot to even get a full size spare into and both the V8's can be lairy handlers (not a problem for you Tony having owned a Cobra) BUT hold back on ordering as there are some big changes coming - AWD and optional manual gearboxes on the V6's, there is also rumoured to be a couple of test cars running around with 2.0ltr Petrol Ingenium engines. One issue with both the V8 and the V6 - if you have to make early starts they are not neighbour friendly cars to start up at the crack of dawn - even with the aural enhancement of the exhaust switched off! They also suffer absolutely dire depreciation if you look at the cars on the Jaguar approved used lists - even dealer demos V8's can be bought with delivery miles and £20k off list.

We are test driving a V6 rag top because the dealer only has a V8 coupe demo. Can't afford the V8 on my pension but could manage the V6 and would go for the coupe as being more practical and to me looks better.

Would not order new because of the depreciation but would look at some of the low or zero mile bargins to be had on Jaguars used car site and I would hope to get a better px deal staying in the JLR family than the jokers at Audi offered. May wait until the AWD has been out a while, salesman told me it is only about £3 to 3.5K extra and then try and pick up a low mile or pre reg offer - I have more than 2.5 years warrantee left on the Evoque so can afford to wait for the right model/deal to come along.

Never considered a running a Jaguar before although I have 'technically' owned two XJs - sacrificed for their suspension, brakes and diff for kit cars, never ever liked the E type but the F type has got both of us smitten! Its good to have a target! And yes the salesman revved the V8 outside the showroom with the sound turned up, how that noise is legal I don't know but I want it!

RE: Convertible to be resurrected??

I'm seriously tempted by the F coupe, it looks beautiful.

I was looking at one at my dealer recently and I commented to the salesman that as it has more luggage space than the ragtop, accommodating the temporary spare wheel wouldn't mean sacrificing too much space. He replied that they discourage customers from buying the spare as the only place to put the full sized road wheel (with knackered tyre) even on the coupe is on the front passenger seat!

RE: Convertible to be resurrected??

Yes it is on my list of desirables but as I scared the living daylights out of myself running a very very powerful TVR for a year, a bit of drizzle and it was looking for a hedge to exit the road through, I too am waiting for an AWD V6S/C version of the coupe. Cheaper and more attractive than an RRS2 if maybe not quite as versatile!

RE: Convertible to be resurrected??

Hello there!,
here are the first pictures of a "real" test-mule car published today on the web.. the car looks quite similar to the 2012 concept car, making exception for a small rear spoiler and those Jaguar-alike alloy wheels:

See you!!,
