"Clunky" Brakes

Hi,

I've read about this elsewhere but curious does anyway else experience it.

When I brake, just when it comes to complete halt I can hear a clunk i.e. the sound of the brake I suppose. Like a metal sound. Again, when I release the foot brake from a complete stop I can hear this again.

I assume it is either due to its newness? Or the size of the vehicle i.e. extra weight (previously I drove a much smaller car). It worse when reversing.

Is this noise normal?

Hmmm, not something I've noticed, mine's same as any other car. If it doesn't bed in quickly get it checked.

RE: "Clunky" Brakes

If this wasn't for it being a new car, I would have suggested 'delaminated brake pads'.

Ordered: Fuji Dynamic Lux Coupe / style 7 wheels / Privacy glass / adaptive xenons / something else which I've forgotton.
Should be end of April (was March, then April, then end of May/June).

could also be a loose suspension component - probably best to get it checked

RE: "Clunky" Brakes

Hi, I set up a thread on my brakes with similar symptons. I've had the car back to the dealer, who ended up calling in Technician from LR to assist with problem. Advised that I'll have to wait for an ABS update. Don't know how long I'll have to wait for that. Nick at LR keeping a watch on it.

Arrived 16 December 2011: Prestige SD4 auto 5dr in OG with Adaptive Dynamics, Adaptive Xenons, Surround Cameras, Auto Dimming Rearview, Grey Oak Wood, Spare Wheel and Powered Tailgate.

RE: "Clunky" Brakes

I have occasionally experienced such a sound when braking, but have realised that it is when I am coasting to a halt, no sudden braking. I now press the pedal more firmly and have not heard the noise since. Possibly a different problem, or mine will re-occur.

I would get these checked out. I have no strange sounds coming from braking nor suspension so guess somethings not quite right Sad

I find the same thing especially when you apply light pressure to the brakes... eg stopping on a car park ramp to take a ticket. Keep firm pressure on the pedal and it won''t do it.

RE: "Clunky" Brakes

I have this as well, and the dealer mentioned it was normal sound from the brake pads on lighter brake pressure. It can be heard on this video (altough there is a lo of noise, but couldn't find better one:
