Caught in 2 minds about keeping the evoque - trading down?

Sell it - that's a good offer.

It's only a car after all - but choose the next car as wisely as you did the Evoque with head engaged rather than heart. No one wants to admit it but LR seem to be planning some sort of refresh of the Evoque - it won't help the residual value one little bit.

Since my Evoque went back to LR and I ordered a spec'd up SQ5 I've been running around a basic A1 1.4 auto - paid for on my switch card. Gets me from A to B and is fun 43mpg - I have wondered if I really, really need a flash motor at all.

The Skoda Octavia vRS estate Blackline diesel limited edition is almost impossible not to recommend. It borders on the ‘very fast’, consistently turns in 45mpg+, looks special but not lairy, and can haul the biggest kitchen sink you’ve ever seen.

So what, £22,300 on-the-road is no great outlay for this high spec.. but it’s one hell of a whole lot of car for the money...

Well if the truth be known none of us require a flash motor.All modern cars are pretty reliable whether they cost a couple of grand or £100k, but hey, life's too short and I love cars.If we can decide on spec and colour, the Evoque is to replace my wife's A1, not a bad car but not very exciting either.

My very wealthy friends only drive Skodas, they love 'em, just do whats right for you, everyones position is different.

As others are saying, everyone's circumstances are different. It is never wrong to pay down your mortgage but of course you should pay off any higher interest loans such as credit cards first and keep enough rainy day money in a cash ISA so you don't need them in future. Check your mortgage Ts&Cs to make sure you are not paying any form of penalty by repaying part of the capital early.

We were mortgage free by the age of 38. We took a flexible mortgage out so we could increase or decrease payments when necessary. We stretched ourselves a bit to pay it off, we did it in 8 years, but saved thousands in interest payments. Just a few years on we are now reaping the rewards and have a very comfortable life with no financial worries. Sometimes it's worth making a short term sacrifice for a long term gain.

I would love to be able to do that. My uncle and aunt in the states paid theirs off in ten years and they struggled for those years. I know I can't do that. It's always unfortunate that for most of us when we re young and full of vitality we have little money. Personally I think a good balance is ideal. Have fun and spend on the things you want but also save. sounds obvious but only thing guaranteed in life is d&t! I could be paying the monthly payments we pay for the Evoque into our mortgage but hey we happy with it and that's all that matters. I can look out on my driveway and be car-proud! Do whatever is right for your circumstances. Using your head doesn't always make you happy. Another way to think also is, as far as loans are concerned your mortgage is the one of the best rates you ll ever get so why not take advantage of it?!

erm there on vat free at the min, a dealer has offered me one with metallic for 18,995. A lot of car for the money but i am playing a few off and trying to get them as close to 18k as i can.


If thew were 22,300 then i would keep the evoque all day long! There a run out model so theres good deals to be had on them at the min. The new estate was only unveiled the other day.

The spare cash would go on my mortgage purely because i dont actually have any other borrowing. I dont do credit. The mrs has a car loan for her astra gtc but its 0% so free money.
