Car Covers and protection of the black gloss pillar covers

Two questions that I need some help with before I get my new car:

1) Has anybody found a waterproof breathable car cover that will not scratch paint work - my new car will be stored in a large shed which is normally dry but in cold winter weather gets condensation forming on the underside of the corrugated asbestos roof panels that then drips onto my Defender's roof and bonet leaving a white stain that while it washes off I don't want to risk marking my new Zanzibar paintwork - I don't mind the Defender's paint suffering a little as it's got loads of scratches and dings from offroading, but I want to protect the new car's bonnet and roof while it is stored inside

2) Just about every Evoque owner must be aware of the fine scratches that seem to be impossible to avoid on the
gloss black plastic trims on the pillars, especially the D pillar large pieces that show swirls so easily. I wondered if anybody had got theirs wrapped with clear wrap and approx how much it cost?

Try cover your car, I have the Voyager for an MX5 and although garaged the roof has a couple of small leaks and it gets very dusty, the cover keeps everything clean and is good quality and doesn't scratch, although it is recommended to put on a clean car etc. There are other firms who sell the same product.

Tim for point 2, not sure if any of the new silica based products would be any use for this. they apparently lay down a crystalised silica layer that bonds to the paint and can only be removed by machine polishing. for example the Gyeon range. application of these seems to be a little more complex and requires the car to be inside for at least 24 hours but they take up to 14 days to fully cure!

The autofinesse toughcoat that was applied to mine in april is still going strong and seems to have kept the swirlmarks at bay on the freshly resprayed wing too. really easy to apply as well.

EDD, the only bit of the Gardex paintwork sealer on the white Evoque that disappointed was the protection that didn't seem to get done to the pillar trims which makes me suspect that only the paintwork was done. Having been rather a sceptic about these treatments I was very pleased with the finish on the paint, even after 2 years with only a wash every 6 months with the special "top up" detergent supplied in the case that came with the car was enough to allow me only to hose the car off to get it clean. This despite taking the car to the local pressure wash guys who use a hot jet wash along with what comes out of some "Autoglymm" trigger packs every 2-3 weeks and no hand polishes whatsoever during my ownership I'll take a look at what you mention when the car arrives.

Tim, Mine does not get washed as often as it probably should. I have applied a nanolex washcoat once since polished bliss did the toughcoat just to get it beading nicely again. I cannot recommed this product enough for a quick top up of your protection especially in the winter when cold hands prohibit extensive detailing sessions. Just wash the car leave it wet spray on with a snow foam lance, leave and jetwash off then run an openeded hose over the car and its left near enough dry. TIP: If youve any washcoat mix left over do the house windows too makes the rain bead off them nicely too.

I did the house windows with Autoglymm bug and tar remover followed by a go over with Autoglymm glass polish a couple of years ago, it's worked really well and the local window cleaner never needs to visit!

Don't 3m do some type of wrap.

I thought they sold the body protection strips that fit onto the prone areas at the front of the car.

yes, 3M makes Paint Protection Film (which I plan to have applied to the front, part of the hood and the side mirrors), though I'm not sure if it would apply to non-painted surfaces. A question to ask a certified installer, perhaps!
