Battery cover

Beware that the four turn-button clips that hold the battery cover in place in the engine bay are not 'captive' and can easily be lost into the engine bay. Having only covered 1000 miles in five months, [yes, work commitments] I thought it a good idea to add a trickle charge for a day, and undid the four turn-buttons on the battery cover, only to find they are not secured to the cover in anyway. I lost one down into the engine bay with no way of retrieving it. Not a major problem but very poor design at the same time. Incidentally, does removal of the battery entail removing the substantial engine bay stiffener beam. It seems to be necessary........?

RE: Battery cover

Cue Tim, to tell you the Aux 12V socket in the back is permanent live and has been used to trickle charge... Very Happy

Useful info though Thanks!

they are so loose........you'll soon need to use a whole packetful, I guess. One of mine was loose anyway before I started removing the cover.

Thanks for the advice on using the aux socket, guys. That said, I'm worried I will drive off with my charger in tow!

Cannot happen! If you start the car with the charger plugged in the charger will blow up.................. and you'll only tow a cable.
More seriously, I leave a "post-it"type note stuck over the start button to remind my bother to unplug the solar charger before starting the engine.

Mine was missing one after the last visit to the dealers with the famous 'Three minute shut down warning -battery/alternator issue'.

Did not notice it was missing until I checked under bonnet the following day, totally cheap and cr@p method of securing. Shame on you LR but in keeping with the rest of the plastics on the Evoque.

Will be going into Inverness next week so I will call at the dealer and request a replacement, will post cost/part no etc. Should be no cost in this instance as I feel it was not replaced/or secured properly.

RE: Battery cover

On the point about the rear AUX 12v socket being live.

I have found that it is not and switches it self off after 5 minutes or so. I have tried two trickle chargers (CTEK XS 3600 & Optimate 4 Dual Program Battery Charger CAN-BUS compatible) using the rear AUX 12v socket, and both fail to delivery any charge to the battery through that socket.

I have checked that the AUX 12v does work, which it does, as I have used it to inflate the the tyres with a 12v air compressor, but I only get a few minutes of power and then it stops. This is not with the ignition on, I may add.

My vehicle is a MY13 model, build 5th Sept 12. I am wondering if they have changed something on the MY13 models regarding the AUX 12v socket.

Pure, TD4 Coupe (Tech Pack) Since Sept 2012. (Sold May 16)

Thanks, moderator for your very....er....'reassuring' words. I think on balance that will charge via the battery, buy a bag of those crappy battery cover clips and use the raised bonnet as my 'one metre square' memory jogger........
