Part Number LRO 24316

Picked up a couple FOC from my dealer earlier this week. Must be a part that falls off easily as the guy in the stores knew exactly what they were and had them to hand.

I have found that it is not and switches it self off after 5 minutes or so. I have tried two trickle chargers (CTEK XS 3600 & Optimate 4 Dual Program Battery Charger CAN-BUS compatible) using the rear AUX 12v socket, and both fail to delivery any charge to the battery through that socket.

I have checked that the AUX 12v does work, which it does, as I have used it to inflate the the tyres with a 12v air compressor, but I only get a few minutes of power and then it stops. This is not with the ignition on, I may add.

My vehicle is a MY13 model, build 5th Sept 12. I am wondering if they have changed something on the MY13 models regarding the AUX 12v socket.

I was always under the impression that my aux socket in the rear was not permanent either, after I had a GPS tracking system switch off after a period of time. Mine's a MY12 Pure.

I have noticed that it will switch back on when I open the boot or open with the central locking key, giving the impression it has been on all the time. But I am fairly certain on mine anyway - it is not live all the time.

RE: Battery cover

The confusion comes as this is a MY12 vs MY13 issue. In the '12s the rear socket stays live all the time and thus can be used for trickle charging. In the '13s it powers off after 10min, and so cannot be used.

Hope this clarification helps.

Sorry but not the case on mine. Mine is a MY12 Built May 15th 2012, and the rear socket is not live all the time.

RE: Battery cover

I lost two when I first removed the battery cover. Impossible to retrieve even if I knew where they went. Now replaced.

I think the manual says special tools are required to replace the battery which may be more to do with the battery monitoring hardware than the physical replacement. As for what's involved, I do not know, I expect Halfords will not want to touch them and the "official" LR battery will be "reassuringly expensive".
