Autocar test TD4 Evoque

In the 17th August issue of Autocar is a single page road test of a Colima Lime Evoque 5 door TD4 Prestige Manual if anybody is interested.

Verdict 4*'s

So Good:
Plenty of pace from the entry level diesel
Lots of equipment
Optional magnride dampers taut on the road, supple off it
Looks great

No Good
Big mirrors get in the way
EPB annoying in a manual car

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

Agree about the mirrors, far too big and with the pillars mean real visibility issues ( for me anyway). I almost hit a bollard on a traffic island when turning right on my test drive just couldn't see where it was!

RE: Autocar test TD4 Evoque

apparently you just put your foot on the clutch and brake and it automatically turns the EPB off.. Doubt it would be annoying once you get used to it
*as for the mirrors, it wont be long before some smaller aftermarket options become available..

I reckon that is true. Irritating at first and in a couple of months you will be lost without it!Smile

RE: Autocar test TD4 Evoque

Seems odd that when many manufcaturers now use EPB's on manual gearbox cars that Autocar chose the Evoque to criticise the way it releases - my last 3 cars have had EPB's and autoboxes and the only problem I have ever had has been the parking brake not releasing or howling when off road dirt has got into it but a redesign between 2005 and 2007 seems to have stopped that on the RRS, D4 and FFRR

My wife already takes off without disengaging the PB on my Merc A-Class which is not electronic, so it just complaints and beeps... Smile so in the Evoque she will already feel "at home" with the EPB Smile

RE: Autocar test TD4 Evoque

A word of caution on the EPB.. I have a Jaguar XFS which also employs the EPB and as its JLR product its likey the same kit or a derivative of it....
When disengaging the EPB on Jaguars You need to allow a second for the brake to disengage as failing to do this can cause sever rear pad a and disc wear.
Just pulling away has been regarded as the major cause of the very high wear rate on the XF.......
