Auto Wipers aaaaarrrrggg!!!!

I am now convinced that my auto wipers are CRAP.
They are deffinately set to auto and are very very variable in their operation. Sat in traffic in heavy rain I sometimes dont get a wipe untill I cant see and then they go crazy for a few wipes, then they settle to a normal wipe and then again they try to kill me by not wiping again
I understand that the sensitivity can be adjusted by the control on the stalk but it doesnt seem to make any difference.
Can anyone tell me if the wipers go more sensitive if I rotate the collar towards me or away from me.

Audi auto wipers are much better and safer

+1

I can't ever seem to get them to the right frequency - always either too slow or too fast so I tend to just use the wipers manually

As do mine.............. most of the time, they have their off days though.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

I agree that the autowipe function is very random. Had it on my previous car (BMW) and it worked very well indeed. I don't understand why if they are automatic you need to have and set different speeds. Automatic should just clear the screen when necessary!

My wipers keep dragging across the windscreen and shuddering. 2400km old and still haven't worn in Sad might have to try something on the windscreen to lube it up Smile

In my car the adjustment ring on the stalk adjusts the sensitivity and when the rear wiper is running it changes the interval of the intermittent (IIRC this is a dealer enabled feature) so I have variable intermittent rear or continuously running by setting it to the on position

I think I'd read that before. Don't really understand why it would be a feature that needs enabling? whats the logic in having it disabled?

Don't ask me! Way back in 1998 my Disco2 had a speed related rear window wiper, for every five times the front wiped the rear gave a wipe until I got up to something like 60 when the rear wiper automatically became continuous - above 100mph on my last FFRR and TDv8RRS the same thing happened - don't know why LR decided to make it a highly illegal speed and a very silly one to be driving at in rain!
