Audio spec

Just been looking at my build spec on topix and it states that the Audio is "HI LINE AUDIO SYS - 600 W"

Is this just another name for my standard Meridian 380w system or is it something else ?

RE: Audio spec

I don't know Speary, but I've just had a quote to repair my tailgate and the vehicle data they have included states my car has a 140hp engine. if that is the performance of the weedy engine I don't know why I paid for the 190hp engine! How many speakers have you found -that will give you a clue.

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

RE: Audio spec

Yes I think the Topix listing of the Audio system is the Peak RMS value as the 375W says 600W and the 825W says somthing much higher too.

Yeah, you're kind of right.

There are typically 2 ways audio is rated for power.
The wattage is the electrical power being delivered from your amp to the speakers.

Some (most) that you see on the shelf at somewhere like halfords will quote a Watts figure in 'peak power' that was achieved/observed during manufacturers testing. This could be almost a single spike on a sound wave that shot right up and didn't damage the amp or speakers (but almost certainly would do if ran to that extreme in general use). So its wattage is heavily exaggerated in real terms.

RMS however (with out going deeper than I can explain) is more real world capability, tested on continuous sound power so will always be lower than the afore mentioned way of rating.
Derived from 'Root mean square' it will give you a figure that your system will deliver without the sound distorting.

Now 380 watts sounds a lot...but
It may not be as powerful or as loud as you are expecting over say 100 watt system.
The sensitivity of the speakers play a part in this and basically the higher the Db rating at 1W per 1 Metre the less power needed to drive it.
So you want a high Db figure for louder output per watt.

OUT - Pure SD4, Orkney Grey, 5 dr, Manual, Fogs, Xenons, Auto dim mirror, Auto lights / wipers, Power fold mirrors, spare wheel.
IN - Dynamic SD4, Indus Silver, 5 dr, Auto, Heated Steering Wheel, Auto Dim mirror, Spare wheel.

Thanks for the replies. It all seems to make sense now
