Annual service time, more stress.

Fourth year service coming up so popped into my local dealer to discuss the service, was quoted £540 and MOT at £54.

HOW MUCH!

I asked what do you do for that price? It took almost half an hour to get a proper detailed reply, I said I can get all these parts on eBay for £64 and yes they are genuine LR, correct C oil at about £60. Also you only charged me £30 for an MOT last year, KwikFit will do it for £30. Won't budge.

Every year I visit my local Land Rover dealer I see new faces, nobody ever seems to know what they are doing as I try to negotiate a cheaper alternative service and the service receptionist doesn't seem to know the difference between an oil filter and a fuel filter, just where do they get these people?

Anyway KwikFit tell me I have an excessive oil leak that needs urgent attention, I'd seen this on my drive but thought it was from my MG Midget so I phone the LR dealer to tell them, I'm told someone will phone me within an hour, I'm still waiting.

Called into BMW for a look around today, probably Mercedes tomorrow.

Play them at their own game. Why not have just an mot to start with. That will get your tyres, brakes, exhaust system, lights, steering joints, suspension, shock absorbers, brake efficiency, headlamp alignment, exhaust emissions, seatbelt, door locks, windscreen, washers, wipers, horn, indicators, transmission shafts, brake pipes and hoses, wheel bearings, chassis, doors, bodywork plus a few more items checked. Not bad for £54.

All you'd need to do then would be to ask for an oil change, plus oil, air and fuel filter change. Surely that can't come anywhere near £540. Service done.

RE: Annual service time, more stress.

There are 100's of non-franchise independent LR specialists all over the UK. Many do a far better job and do it for a lot less than LR dealers and they can do it using genuine LR parts. Many served their time with a franchised dealership and are factory trained. Have you tried looking for a local indie LR specialist? I've just had my 20 year old Defender serviced, MOT'd, new cylinder head gasket an endoscope inspection of the interior of the bulkhead for signs of corrosion done for £409 including labour, VAT and the MOT.
I didn't even shop around.................... I know my village garage would do it for less but they are Volvo trained and don't use genuine LR parts, they look after many farm Landies so have experience, just I don't trust them!

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.

I used to have an X type Jag and did this with a local Jaguar specialist. A service and MOT usually around £220 B service £280. I'm going to ask them if the will do the evoque as over 6 years never had a problem with them.

RE: Annual service time, more stress.

Had the MOT done at KwikFit for £30 by booking online, that's how the oil leak came to light Steve.

I negotiated an oil and filter change and fuel filter change and that still comes to £320 so I'm going for that especially now that this oil leak has developed so they can look at it, I can change the air filter and pollen filter myself if needed, it's all about getting that LR stamp in the book as well.

I love my Evoque it's just the main dealer that can p#ss me off and possibly make me look elsewhere when the time comes to change.

This worries me, I bought the service pack for £500.00 if they charge £540.00 for this service then what will they miss out on my services?

LR don't even stamp the book anymore! It's all online now.

Somewhere in the North Sea.

Then the question arises: Can you as a presumtive buyer of a privatly owned RR check with LR if it has been serviced

Yes! Any dealer can call up your car's history. My local dealership gives me a printout of the service and what was done and I keep that in the folder.
