RE: 17" Snow tires

I picked up a cheap set of 17 freelander wheels on eBay and got winter tyres for £100 each ran them all last winter, just put hem back on. Well worth it, not only to keep my summer wheels nice and clean but also cutting down on tyre costs.

Aaargh, I get mixed up with this tyre lark. I've got 20's on my Dynamic, so should I be downgrading the size of the wheel to put winters on ?

You don't have to, but 20" winters are hard to find and expensive, and really if you were needing winter tyres then you probably don't want to risk damaging your 20" wheels against kerbs etc higher side walls (smaller wheel) give you more protection from hitting things with your alloy.

RE: 17" Snow tires

Sounds sensible, so is 17 the figure most go for, and will that not look a bit naff ? Suppose you cant have style and substance.
So get a cheap set of smaller alloys and winters to fit .
Thanks.

RE: 17" Snow tires

17" are the recommended by LR for use with snow chains. They look good on the car, not naff at all...looks just the same as on the Freelander 2. It certainly does not degrade the appearance.

RE: 17" Snow tires

I have 19" Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow tyres that I ran the car on last winter. The reduction in road noise over the 20" Craptinentals was quite noticeable, as well as having better braking and grip in both snow and in heavy rain. I ran similar Pirelli winter tyres on my last RRS and FFRR and even in summer they were impressive in the wet. They would be a nice tyre to run all year round unless it got really hot and dry!

A Pangea Green New Defender 110 First Edition is now sitting on my drive alongside British Racing Green Electric Mini Cooper SE Level 3. After 21 years in my hands my TDI300 90 was handed on to the next custodian on 15 July 2022.
