fog lights are so people can see you not so you can see others anyway

That's true for rear fogs but not necessarily for fronts.

Traditionally front fogs were mounted as low as possible to pick up cats eyes easily. Moving them as high as they are on the Evoque makes them pretty useless, with pretty being the operative word.

I don't have the xenons or the signature DRLs
You can't use the fogs without the sidelights. If you use the sidelights the DRLs dim so the effecst as seen as by other users is pretty similar. Either DRLs or fogs and sides. Is this the same with xenons/signature DRLs?

RE: Fog light question!

If you drive with your fogs and sides on when the speed limit is in excess of 30mph you are breaking the law, even if it is foggy.

Don't think that's right
What offence are you committing?
It's not a Construction & Use offence.

If you drive on a road during the hours of darkness your headlights must be lit, unless its a restricted road (30mph) with street lighting where your side lights will suffice.

As well as been against the law it is also a pointless thing to do and in my opinion looks crap.

Agreed - didn't know you were talking about it being dark.

fogs have to be fitted low so as to reduce the risk of the light being bounced straight back and further reducing visibility. Easier to pick up the road ahead as well. In any event they're generally pretty useless. You just have to adjust your speed to accommodate the severity of the conditions!

Yes I asw that but I questioned it in post #6 as I thought they looked like halogen bulbs. I was just looking for confirmation
