Fitting Of Roofrails.

I fancy having a black set of roofrails fitted to my Dynamic (with panoramic roof) but when I called the dealer the other day he said to supply & fit was over £1000 . I said why the exorbidant price? I was told that unlike the Freelander the Evoque does not have the fittings in the roof area so everything has to be installed
Is this right or wrong & if right is that a rediculous price or normal? Either way there is no way I am paying anything like that to have them fitted

I'm awful at DIY (as my wife would confirm) but I decided to fit the rails myself and it wasn't difficult. The 4 plastic covers are just clipped in and easily removed with something like a nylon bicycle tyre remover. Beneath these are two fixed threads that you attach the new rails to.

Attaching the new rails involves fitting a plastic guide piece that allows you to set the rails properly. These are then removed and the rails simply bolted on to the two threads in each corner.

Finally you slide on the finishers. Job done.

Buy the rails and finishers from Duckworths or Nick (site sponsors) and save yourself over £300!

Roof Rails (VPLVR0086) £308.00 + VAT

Kit (VPLVR0073) £160.00 + VAT (Roof Cross Bars)

Finisher (VPLVR0090) £88.00 + VAT

Dealership say, Allow 2 Hours for fitting: £157.00 + VAT

TOTAL £713.50 + VAT @ 20% = £856.20

The above costs are what my dealership are charging (inc VAT) to supply and fit Roof Rails and Bars..hope this helps.

£600 for some roof rails is still too much, about 300 might be a fair price.

I agree fitting is easy, you just need to find a plastic pry tool to remove the existing finishers without damaging anything. I got my rails from Duckworth and, at a minimum, you need the rails and the finisher kit which depends on whether or not you have a panoramic roof. You save by installing yourself - place a towel at the back fixing point while you are securing the front to prevent the rail damaging something - and you then need to add cross bars and whatever you want to put on the rails. It's expensive overall but works well.

If the weather is good over the weekend will install mine see if I can get some picture or video, read the instructions didn't look the hard will see hehe

I don't want the crossrails etc I just like the look of the general rails that run the length of the roof & I have ordered the pano roof.

Thanks, very expensive compared with the Freelander 2.

Fitting the roof rails involves removing and (supposedly) discarding the plastic pieces replaced by the trim kit.

It's worth hanging on to these (or ask the dealer to return them) because if a new version of the Evoque comes out which you wish to buy, you might decide to remove the roof rails and move them to the new car instead of buying again. Highly unlikely that a face-lifted Evoque or a higher performance model would not be compatible with them.

What you can be certain of is that they will contribute nothing to the resale value.

Help! Having trouble fitting the finishing trims to the rails. Could someone please take a photo of the back and front of the rails where it meets the roof. I just cant seem to get them to slide on without unsightly gaps that exposé the metal brackets. I am loathe to keep forcing it in case I break them. Any help would be most appreciated....
