RRS 5.0 to Evoque - Woppyman - 08-04-2016 08:33am
Hi all,
Just registered here. I've got a MY12 RRS 5.0 SC/ AutoBiog which I love, but tempted by lower running costs and the attraction of a new shape RR. As I only have 3 in my family I'm thinking of trading in the Sport for a new Evoque. I'm a bit worried by the reliability after reading these threads. Also the speed, I'm hoping it will feel a bit more nippy as lighter and more agile - different delivery than the 'charged 3 tonne behemoth I'm currently running.
Am I bonkers or has anyone else done a Sport>Evoque move?
If I'm going to do this, I want to do it before my Sport depreciates too much as it's only done 15k miles but older shape is falling in value,

Woppy, welcome to the Evoque forums.
I did the 2010MY FFRR Vogue to 2011 launch day delivery Evoque move and am now in a 2015MY RRS2, chalk and cheese! (Prior to the FFRR TDv8 I had a TDv8 RRS and 2.7 TDv6 RRS). Don't get too worked up about the less than favourable reports here, you are a member over on RRSport and there are as many reports of poorly finished RRS2, it is an Internet forum and allows people to vent their frustrations. There will be many many owners out there who have never had an issue so don't have an "axe to grind".
The 2.2 diesels were a little coarse but have plenty of torque, I have no experience of the new 2.0ltr Ingenium diesels engines but I'm sure that they will not offer less oomph as they are also lighter than the old Ford PSA 2.2 lump. There is also a Ford 2.0lt Ecotec 4 cylinder petrol engine available in Evoque that might suit your "sprightliness" needs better than the diesel but neither engine will give you the same get up and go of the V8 S/C (even the 4.2V8 S/C).
Have you considered an SDv6 RRS2? The 2015MY onwards have huge torque and great fuel economy when you can resist using all the power and torque! Also bear in mind that the L494 RRS is up to 500kgs lighter than the version you have................ Shedding that much weight makes a big difference, even to the 3.0V6 diesels.D
Also, I'm getting better fuel economy in my SDv6 RRS in day to day driving than I got in either of my 2.2ltr Evoques, even with the 9 speed auto gearbox. On long motorway hauls, yes the Evoques could get over 45mpg driven with care, but my current RRS can easily achieve 42mpg at 70mph so long as I don't welly it too often!

42mpg!! Wow, I think 23 is the most up getting on a m'way.
I'm getting the impression that I'm not going to like the Evoque coming from the RRS, and might be worth waiting until the RRS2 comes down a little (cheapest I've seen is £54k).
What's the thinking of ongoing maintenaince cost between RRS and Evoque, tyres/servicing/brakes etc?
Of course all this pales into insignificance against depreciation costs of sub 5 year old vehicles

Reliability and performance on my Evoque have been excellent. You would probably notice the reduction in boot space if that is important to you. You can always drop one of the seats back.

I have had the maintenance contract from LR on the last Evoque and the RRS so the services for the first 5 years are paid for and the fees for 5 years is less than the cost of 3 years servicing............... And is transferable from first owner to subsequent owners when the car is sold on (and if the dealer tells you that the previous owner took out the agreement!)

Had a test drive in new 2.0l Evoque, brilliantly smooth engine but as you can imagine coming from a s/c felt pretty tame. I think I could live with that though - by keep remembering the fuel savings!
However I can't reconcile the part-ex offer. The dealer said my sport the nicest example they've seen with such low miles, but they need to make 5k selling it on so can't offer what I want for it. Dealer going away to try and work some magic with dealer contributions. Most frustrating part is their website said they'd offer me the money I wanted for it but dealer said that's only there to get you in the showroom - this behaviour does not make me sympathetic to main dealers!

Have you tried We Buy Any Car for a valuation?
Unfortuantely S/C's are not what sells on a dealers forecourt so you have their decreasing margin to cater for as they reduce the sticker price as the car sits there going down in value. It's one reason why there are very few dealerships with an S/C on their demo fleet unless it is an SVR, once they have it it tends to stick. Unfortunately the 2.0ltr petrol Evoques tend to be the same as 5.0ltr RRS's and 5.0ltr FFRR's.

I recently changed from a trusty Discovery 3 to an Evoque and I'm really pleased with it. OK I didn't have the power you had but the difference in day to day running costs is a nice plus point. I also think its a really good looking car with bang up to date looks. If the finance side can work for you then go for it

Think I may have got the deal I was after. Apparently good deals to be had on brand new. I'm offered an Evoque Dynamic Lux with £2k dealer contribution, £1k LR contribution for taking their pcp (which you have 14 days to change mind and keep the £1k) and 33.5k for my RRS which has 10k equity in. Also £200 towards a towbar. Works out 418 per month over 4 years. Good deal (or should I ask for a brolly as well??)
It's a bit annoying to have lost 6.5k on the RRS in 9 months, but that's dealers markup for you - and 0-60 of 5 seconds has been a blast
