Bit of Fun - Evoque towing Yamaha 242L Boat - Firebird - 25-03-2011 12:34pm
Hi guys,
Was bored, the wife is watching her aussie rules team loose by a point so I decided to play with Photoshop.
Wondered how the Evoque would look towing my boat.

But will it actually be able to haul that weight? My dealer tells me that he thinks certain models will not be able to have a tow bar fitted - I've probably ordered one of them................. I wait to see what the accessory brochure has to say - at least I have a 2nd vehicle that can safely haul 3.5 tonnes as well if the Evoque Dynamic cannot haul a big trailer - a Defender 90 will cope easily with my windsurfer trailer even when it is fully loaded!

If it can tow 2000kgs it will be able to tow it short distances. Boat weighs 2100Kgs dry and about 2500 wet. It is only 2kms to the boat ramp.
But I am going to buy a 89-99 RR just to tow the boat to and from the ramp and in to town (16kms) every now and then for fuel and servicing. I expect it will do less than 500kms a year. The house is our holiday house which is 280kms away. Want some thing nice to drive to and from and around the city (the Evoque) and the RR will live at the holiday house.

FB a tdi300 Defender 90 would be so much more fun and a whole lot more reliable than an early P38A or run out RRC. I bought my 90 7 years ago as a "sump guard" for the Freelander1 I had at the time - the Freebie never went offroad again so the sumpguard worked very well. Apart from a flat battery due to a driving light relay defect it has been 100% reliable and taken some very severe off-raod hammering. It had a new Galvanised Chassis fitted 4 years ago and is now good for another 20 years life.

How about a Territory. They're a dim a dozen. I may even consider a new Territory in diesel instead of an Evoque. Bigger vehicle than I want and the 2.7L diesel is now a hand-me-down, but it could still be better value than an Evoque.

It is not, it is designed and built in Broadmeadows here in Melbourne. It is bigger than a RRS.

When it first arrived (2004) many motoring journos favorably compared it to an X5. A friend has a 2007 Ghia and in no way does it drive like a heavy AWD; it is very car like -shame it has take 7 years to get a diesel engine. It is also a true 7 seater. I'm 6' 6" and I can easily sit in the third row of seats, unlike the pretend 7 seat Euros.
