Total loss of power steering - PhiliusM - 02-01-2015 09:16pm I have a 2011 Si4 Dynamic Evoque. Today it lost all power steering I very nearly ruptured myself trying to control the car. Looking at the dash there was a helpful warning stating that "Steering assistance was reduced". Turning the car off and then on again didn't clear it. Luckily I was on a quiet road at the time, if I'd been on a motorway it would have been a lot more serious. I've booked it into the local dealership and have asked Land Rover to contact me. I'll keep you guys and Gals updated because this could be really major. RE: Total loss of power steering - PhilSkill - 02-01-2015 09:53pm I had a power Steering pipe burst once on an old Rover SD1, went straight on at a corner almost up the kerbs as it's unbelievable how difficult it is to steer a fully assisted car when it has no assistance! Had Arm muscles of steel after driving to a garage after that! Hope it gets resolved well, be interesting to know what happens, and what gets fixed. Best of luck! RE: Total loss of power steering - Redrob - 02-01-2015 11:26pm I lost power in my old Range Rover Sport after going through a big puddle, was told that the power steering belt was slipping due to it being wet. RE: Total loss of power steering - XFullFatTim - 03-01-2015 10:12am Evoque's "power steering" isn't power steering though! It's electrically assisted steering.......... so check the fuses etc - all the usual 'lecky stuff. Did you try switching over to Dynamic Mode to see if that made any difference as the steering is also remapped when the Dynamic button is pushed. Regarding hydraulic power assistance - yes I had the auxy drive belt on a Discovery 2 shred itself and lost not only the PAS but also battery charging, air con and several other things. Even on the end of a rigid tow by Land Rover Assistance for the recovery back to the dealership it was hard work, on a very twisty country road! RE: Total loss of power steering - PhiliusM - 10-01-2015 10:46am The Verdict: New steering rack and a new battery just for good measure. I had a new rack and steering wheel on my 6 month old Hyundai. RE: Total loss of power steering - PhiliusM - 15-01-2015 01:32pm Got the car back on time with the work done that they said would be done. All seems fine now. I'm really pleased with the way LandRover dealt with it. RE: Total loss of power steering - JavierBayArea - 15-01-2015 08:16pm So was teh car still on warranty?, RE: Total loss of power steering - PhiliusM - 19-01-2015 04:04pm Extended Warranty 1st year of. |
