Service 2: Grease wheel spigots? - Bruno787 - 05-05-2014 02:26pm

Im doing my second service soon (DIY).

What is a wheel spigot?
How do i grease them (spigots) and what type of grease is required?

It's the centre hole in the wheel where it sits over the hub to locate the wheel centrally. It can corrode and make the wheels difficult to remove. Any basic grease should do the trick. Dealers probably just spray the back of the wheel or hub before refitting if they do it at all.

Be very careful when greasing not to get any onto the brake disks................. when you remove the wheel you will often see the marks left by staining/ corrosion on the hub, try to only get the grease very lightly smeared only on these marks. I've never done it to my Evoque but do it after deep wading sessions in my Defender as I know from (bitter) experience that the alloys on it corrode onto the hubs very quickly.

Would copper slip be better than grease? I put copper grease on the inside of my alloys where the meet the hub on my stag.
