Wiper Skipping - HeartbreakRidge - 02-04-2014 01:49pm

There was light mist from the traffic after a rain this morning, so I hit the single wipe several times, and each time the driver's side wiper skipped across the windscreen on the return wipe. I drove it in heavier rain on Saturday, where it worked fine, and aside from washing the Evoque and putting Rain X on the windows (neither of which occurs to me how they could be involved), nothing else has changed.

If it was an old wiper, or it had been a while since I'd washed the windscreen, I'd chalk it up to that, but this confuses me a bit.

Rain-X will be the cause, use some washer fluid when you wipe and it will likely settle down after a couple of weeks.

Hmm! I've been using it for many years and don't recall it causing this problem before, but I'll give that a go. We have a LOT of rain in the forecast the next few days so that may help as well. Thanks.

another thing you could try would be to wipe some of the rain-x on the wiper blade to get it to move smoother?
I just stuck a silicone blade in mine a few days ago. I've found on my old car that these work way better than standard blades.

Thanks for the suggestions. Some more rain and some washer fluid does seem to have done the trick!

I've heard that the Freelander 2 and Rain X don't mix, with the wipers skipping etc. might be the same case on your Evoque.

Evoque has hydrophobic glass you shouldn't need RainX on any windows

If that's so, then the hydrophobic aspect needs work, because there was a *BIG* difference between Saturday in the rain (pre Rain X) and Monday (post Rain X)!

It didn't skip a jot today (yes more rain!) on the way to work, so that's definitely sorted for now.

I was under the impression that it's only the front side windows that are hydrophobic on the Evoque.

They are, I just checked, front screen is not hydrophobic!
